Ardmore is a small neighborhood located in northern Atlanta, Georgia. It is roughly four miles north of the downtown area. Atlanta is the capital city of the state of Georgia and, historically, was a significant city during the Civil Rights Movement. The city is currently home to the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park and is a popular tourist destination. Travelers will know Atlanta as being home to the busiest airport in the world: Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Ardmore is largely a residential neighborhood. However, given its close proximity to a nearby hospital, Ardmore has a strip of local restaurants including a diner, several Tex-Mex options, and a nationally-known Starbucks.

Ardmore, and the greater Atlanta area, experiences all four seasons, but summers are definitely the most extreme with significant humidity and heat. The other seasons are a bit more mild with winters being chilly and wet and snowfall being incredibly rare.

The western parts of Ardmore may be more walkable than the rest of the neighborhood as the larger residential community is located in west Ardmore. There, you will likely find less traffic, slower moving cars, large beautiful trees, and a park. The eastern part of Ardmore is adjacent to a hospital and has more major streets, so exercise caution if you and Fido venture that way.

The whole Ardmore neighborhood, however, is quite hilly. These steep hills may be difficult for older pups or pedestrians with mobility issues, so do some research on your route before you head out the door.

The borders of Ardmore include Collier Road to the north, Peachtree Road to the east, 26th Street and Ardmore Circle to the south, and Tanyard Creek Urban Forest to the west. Collier Road, the northern border of Ardmore, also runs along a major medical campus and pedestrians may wish to avoid the area and the steady hospital-related traffic.

Thankfully, Ardmore has a wonderful park for you and your pup to explore! Ardmore Park is home to the Tanyard Creek Urban Forest, a nature preserve with some picnicking areas, natural terrain, and some great trails! The Atlanta BeltLine, which is a series of old railroads that are being converted into running, walking, and biking trails, runs through this park and specifically the Northside and Tanyard Creek Trails.

Ardmore Park also directly connects to Tanyard Creek Park via the Atlanta BeltLine. This larger greenway has more trails to explore, a creek for your pup to romp around in, and more places to rest or picnic.

Other nearby greenways include Loring Heights Park, Spring Valley Park, Channing Valley Park, Springlake Park, Ellsworth Park, and Underwood Hills Park. Many of these are also connected by the Atlanta BeltLine trails while others are more traditional parks that are home to playgrounds, sports facilities, and areas for general recreation.
