Carey Park is a neighborhood located on the west side of Atlanta, Georgia and has a population of 1,739 people. The neighborhood has some small shops and local grocery stores located in convenient locations in the neighborhood where residents can easily reach them on foot.

The weather in Atlanta is pleasant for walking with warm temperatures and lots of sunny days throughout the year. Winters are cooler and there is more rain, however, there is little snow, so a warm rain jacket is usually adequate for dog walkers to take their furry friends for a daily jaunt. Heat spells with high humidity in the summer are more common and can be uncomfortable for walking with your pup. Heat-related illnesses are a risk. Walk at cooler times of the day, find shady walkways, don't over stress you or your pet with excessive exercise, and make sure you both drink lots of water.

Carey Park is bordered by James Jackson Parkway to the west, Hollywood Road NW to the east, Proctor Creek to the north, and the Almond Park neighborhood to the south. The terrain is sloped and dog walkers and their pets will need to do some hiking up hills to get around the area.

The area has lots of spans with no sidewalks, so pedestrians and pups walking the Carey Park district often need to share the roads with local traffic. Walk facing oncoming cars, keep your dog leashed, and watch out for vehicles when walking on residential roads.

Homes in the area moderate in size with large rural properties. There are also several unique apartment complexes laid out in semi-circular structures on the northwest side of Carey Park. The area is well treed with wooded areas on undeveloped land and on private properties around the area which gives Carey Park a very country-like feel.

Carey Park has heavily wooded natural areas, especially along the southern border, that provide greenways in the neighborhood. Natural areas have unmaintained trails in and around them to discover with your dog, but depending on the landscape and weather, they may or may not be appropriate for daily walks. Use unmaintained natural trails with caution.

AD Williams Park is located on the west side of the neighborhood and is connected to Carey Park. This park has a recreation center and sports fields and facilities. Carey Park has a larger wooded area and a creek running through it.

A short drive to the west will take you and your canine companion to the Westside Reservoir Park. The park is a large greenway developed at the site of a former quarry. It has large treed and open natural areas with lots of walking and hiking trails around the lake and through other areas of the park to explore with your pooch.
