Center Hill is a northeast Atlanta residential neighborhood with some commercial activity. Convenience stores, local eateries, and a variety of local businesses are located along the Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway which runs east-west through the northern part of the neighborhood providing local services within walking distance. There are also some schools, churches, and a park in the district that make alternate walking destinations.

Atlanta weather is temperate with cool but rarely cold temperatures in the winter and hot, humid summers. Summer temperatures are usually in the 80s while winters are rainy and cool. Waterproof outerwear and good footwear can keep your feet dry and will make dog walking in the Center Hill region more pleasant during cold, wet months. Summer temperatures can be uncomfortable for walking when hot spells and excessive humidity occur and dog walkers will want to take their pooches out later or earlier in the day to avoid the heat.

A large cemetery takes up a large portion of the community on the south side of the region. The south side is also the location of a high school with a large property and sports facilities. There is some light industrial on the northwest corner of the community and a commercial corridor running east-west on the north side of Center Hill.

The terrain varies with some level areas and some hills. Most hills are not particularly steep and pedestrians and pets traversing the area do not have too much difficulty climbing inclines. There are several creeks running through the neighborhood with ravines and wooded areas and the landscape is well treed with natural areas near ravines and on undeveloped property.

Residential homes in the area are moderate in size and of varying architectural style with lawns and trees. Some areas do not have separate walkways for pedestrians to use, so be careful when sharing the road with local traffic.

Center Hill Park is located on the northeast corner of the Center Hill neighborhood and is walkable for most residents. There is a ball diamond, spray park, playground, and basketball courts providing recreational opportunities in the park. Proctor Creek runs through the park and there is a large natural treed area around the creek and on the north side with natural trails for walking.

Anderson Park is a short walk to the south of Center Hill and provides sports fields and facilities to area residents. The Lionel Hampton Trail can be accessed in this area and this 1.2-mile greenway is hard surfaced and shared by hikers and cyclists, so keep your dog leashed and watch for two-wheeled traffic.

The Westside Reservoir Park is located to the east and provides a large natural area on the site of an old quarry. The park has lots of greenway trails to explore with your hiking hound!
