Florida Heights not only shares a name with one of the sunniest states in America, but also the famous weather too. Sunny almost all year round due to the subtropical climate of Atlanta, Florida Heights is a great neighborhood to walk your pup in. The fresh greens of summer turn into beautiful golds and reds in autumn. This is particularly beautiful in Florida Heights as the houses are dwarfed by tall trees that shed their leaves onto the floor below in preparation for the short winter and vibrant spring ahead.

The community is a mixture of small wooden houses and brick bungalows that are neatly positioned down each street. Its exact location is just west of downtown Atlanta, a great position for dog owners due to its proximity to an abundance of parks. The closest is Lionel Hampton Park, however, Isabel Gates Webster Park and Anderson Park are not far off and are great alternatives.

The predominantly residential neighborhood creates a balance of artificial and natural with soaring trees scattered between each home and grassland and vegetation implanted next to the sidewalks. The charm and tranquillity of the area is boosted by the family-friendly atmosphere with community events being held all year round such as lemonade stands and yard sales. This gives the community a slow-pace attitude to life as cars are in no hurry to leave. This creates a pleasant feel when walking around.

Florida Heights does tend to be hilly with many roads having humps and bumps all the way along. This is great if you fancy a little bit of a workout. However, if this doesn’t appetize you, Willis Mill Road is a long ten-minute walk through one of the most well kept and affluent parts of the neighborhood. This street doesn’t have any hills and is perfect for an easy stroll with your pup.

There are plenty of greenways to get your paws stuck in around Florida Heights. Lionel Hampton Park is completely enchanting with tall trees towering above the misty light green ferns and grasses that sit underneath. The forest is utterly magical and is perfect for charming walks with the whole family. Due to its size and wonder, it is a great weekend escape. Hiking around the whole park will take you a majority of the afternoon, but the historical landmarks such as the Battle of Utoy Creek staging ground and scenic views make it all worthwhile.

For weekday walks, perhaps a small park would be more ideal? Isabel Gates Webster Park is located north of Florida Heights and, due to its size and facilities, is perfect for a daily walk, game of fetch, or puppy training. The park has a field, footpath, and even a beautiful garden to take a wander through.
