Just Us residents with dogs enjoy temperate weather in the area with their pets. Spring and fall are warm and usually sunny with occasional showers. Winters are colder and wet, however, snow and frigid temperatures are fairly rare and a good, warm, waterproof jacket will suffice on most winter days for a stroll. Summers are hot and humid, although usually not overly hot. When heat waves strike, plan to take your dog out early in the morning to avoid heat and humidity.
The community has sloped terrain which makes it more picturesque, but inclines are not steep and pedestrians and pets do not generally have trouble getting around the neighborhood. There are two small triangular parks at either end of Fountain Drive, dubbed Fountain Drive Park I and II.
The area is well landscaped. Private properties have attractive yards with lawns, gardens, and large shade trees. Homes are mostly brick construction and moderate in size. The residential streets do not have sidewalks and pedestrians and their pets must share the road with local traffic. Walk facing oncoming vehicles, keep your dog secure, and watch for cars when sharing roads with traffic.
The Westside Trail runs north to south along the west border of Just Us. This conveniently located trail can be accessed from the Stafford Street Park, located on the west border. This trail is 3 miles long and 14 feet wide with multiple entry points, most of which are ADA accessible. The trail is tree-lined and takes users from University Avenue on the south to Washington Park and Lena Street on the north side. The trail connects to the West End Trail which provides an additional 24-mile spur connecting to other west side neighborhoods.
The Ashview community garden is located on the southwest corner and the Stafford Street Park is on the west border. The Green Leaf Circle park is located to the south and Fountain Drive Park Triangles I and II are located within the community. Although these local parks are small in size, they make up for it in beauty and character with green lawns and lovely trees.
