Vine City is a neighborhood that prides itself on its black history, from its universities and colleges to fine art workshops and shows, there is a real sense of community in their culture here. Vine City is a mixture of residential housing and schools, sprinkled with a few small shops, restaurants, and cafes. There is plenty to do here from visiting the Busy Bee Café, a soul food cozy shop, to visiting the neo-classical arts museum: Herndon Home.

Vine City is nestled in the city of Atlanta and benefits from the state of Georgia’s subtropical location. This means that summer tends to get pretty hot! Combine this with the short, mild winters and the weather here is pleasant all year round. With the abundance of green spaces and parks as well as puppy-friendly shops and cafes in the community, there is plenty to get up to with your four-legged friend!

Vine City is scattered with plenty of open green spaces for you and your pup to play such as Vine City Park, JFK Park, and Rodney Cook Park. However, when venturing out of these areas, a majority of the neighborhood is rather urbanised. With universities, sports stadiums, and even museums being some of the major buildings that call Vine City home. To add to this, the roads are set out in the conventional American block system. This is great when trying to find your way around.

Small houses and bungalows are bundled together in a line along the dainty roads and represent the close-knit side of the community. The presence of a classic American block system means that the topography of the landscape is very flat. This is great as it adds to the ease of the walk. For example, to get from Vine City Park to Rodney Cook Park, it is just one straight flat road called Walnut Street.

The largest park in Vine City is Rodney Cook Park. It is an honorable 16-acres of recently redeveloped green space. The area hosts a pond with a wooden walking bridge, wide footpaths, large fields, and benches. The park is now being called Peace Park to commemorate the legacy of peace in the 19th century. Vine City’s name dates back to over one hundred years ago to when a German family moved to Atlanta and created a nursery of raised flower beds and lush vegetation. It is this history that the new Rodney Cook Park is trying to upkeep.

The community is also home to two smaller parks: JFK Park and Vine City Park. Both are the ultimate daily dog walking destinations as they take approximately twenty minutes to walk around and have everything a dog walker could need. It provides doggy bins and bags with footpaths and fenced off zones for some off-leash play.
