Westview is a neighborhood of Southwest Atlanta. Westview is a historic, residential neighborhood that is highly walkable with a market and businesses located on Ralph David Abernathy Avenue where locals can access shops, eateries, and services. There are also parks, schools, and churches that can be reached on foot.

Dog walkers in Westview enjoy warm weather year-round with few frigid temperatures. Winters are mild and a light jacket usually suffices to keep out cooler weather. Summers, on the other hand, are hot and humid and extreme heat can be a problem for pedestrians. Try walking your pup earlier or later in the day to avoid overexposure in hot weather. It is also important to check weather forecasts to avoid severe storms which can occur during warmer months as tornadoes, thunderstorms, and even cyclones are possible and create hazardous conditions for people and pets exposed to high winds and flying debris.

Westview is bordered by the I20 on the north which has lots of high-speed traffic and noise and should be avoided by dog walkers. Langhorne Street and Cascade Avenue border the neighborhood on the east and South Gordon Street and Westmeath Drive are on the west with Beecher Street on the south.

Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard cuts through the neighborhood and harbors most of the local businesses, including a historic commercial village center. A large cemetery on the northwest side and a golf course on the south side provide developed green spaces.

There is some hilly terrain throughout the neighborhood. Most inclines are not steep, but require some elevation changes which can be difficult on hot days. Residences in the area have varied architectural styles. Residential properties are well landscaped with beautiful trees, lawns, and shrubs. There are sidewalks in the district providing safe pedestrian ways and shade trees are welcome additions on hot summer days.

The Beltline Greenway runs through the east side of Westview and this section of the trail is referred to as the West End Trail. The West End Trail is a 2.4 -mile paved, multi-use trail and cyclists, joggers, and inline skaters utilize it, so keep your dog leashed. The trail is ADA accessible and appropriate for people of all ability levels. There are many access points and parking is available on the adjacent neighborhood streets. This greenway has lots of large trees and connects to other trails and parks in the area.

Gordon White Park is located to the east with gardens, benches, and a paved pedestrian path for strolling in the shade with your pooch. The West End Trail becomes the Westside Trail as you travel north and takes hikers to other parks and trails that provide plenty of opportunities to stretch your legs with your canine companion.
