Sand Hills is a small, residential neighborhood located in Augusta, Georgia. It's only 3.5 miles northwest of the downtown Augusta area. There are very few non-residential buildings, but in the northwest area of this neighborhood, there are a few local restaurants including an oyster bar. There are also four churches, a community center, and the area is only a short walk from the Summerville campus of Augusta University. Unfortunately, there are no pet-related businesses in Sand Hills.

Sand Hills, like the rest of Georgia, has a subtropical climate. During the summers, there are plenty of very hot days with the humidity making them feel even hotter. The winters are a bit more mild with snowfall being quite rare. However, in the winter, freezing rain is sometimes a threat. As always, make sure you are checking the daily forecast so you can be prepared to keep both Fido and yourself safe in different types of weather.

Like many northeast Georgia cities, Augusta has quite a few hills and Sand Hills is no exception. As you move east through this neighborhood, you will experience a significant increase in elevation. If your pup has mobility issues, be sure to plan your route in advance so you can avoid the more strenuous hills in the neighborhood.

Unfortunately, there are very few sidewalks in Sand Hills. They are sporadically placed throughout the neighborhood, so always remain cautious and aware of your surroundings while out walking around. Thankfully, much of the neighborhood has large, mature trees, so you and Fido will be shaded on those hot, sunny summer days. As a smaller, residential community, there should not be too much through-traffic either.

Sand Hills is bordered by a few neighborhoods and landmarks including Westover Memorial Park and Augusta Country Club to the north, Harrisburg to the east, Summerville to the south, and Murray Hill to the west.

Looking at a map may be deceiving, as it appears there are two greenways in Sand Hills. However, one of those greenways is actually Summerville Cemetery where pups aren't welcome. The other greenway, Big Oak Park, is a small community park with a playground, a gazebo, a few benches, and a small general recreational area. However small, this is a great option for you and your furry friend if you are looking to change up your daily walking routine.

Other nearby greenways include Westover Memorial Park, Lake Olmstead Park, Chafee Park, and Pendleton King Park. Other greenways nearby are either cemeteries or golf courses, including the Augusta National Golf Club where the annual Masters Tournament is played.

The nearest dog park is roughly two and a half miles to the south of Sand Hills. Pendleton King Park's Bark Park has two fenced-in sections including one for smaller breeds and one for larger dogs.
