There are parks and beaches along the coast and plenty of resorts and hotels for visitors. If you are looking for a permanent home on the island, Wailea-Makenna offers the best of nature and convenience for the whole family, even your pups! 

This town is a busy place with plenty of traffic, so you will need to keep your dog on-leash and near you while you make your way around town. There are no animal hospitals within Wailea-Makena, but there are a few in the towns to the north, less than 45 minutes away. You can rest easy knowing that your pup will be in good hands if an emergency should arise while you are enjoying your stay. 

You and your dog will fall in love with any of the four large beaches found in Wailea-Makena. Wailea Beach is just one of these waterside gems, where you will find both sun and shade on the sand, complete with grassy areas where your dog can find some relief after all of that running and splashing.

    #1 North Wailea-Makena

    The northern portion of Wailea-Makena is full of green spaces and dog-friendly beaches where you can take your dogs for an exciting day of fun in the sun or games of fetch in the grass. Keonekai Park is a pupular destination where you will find open green grass with trees for shade. You are welcome to visit this lovely area with your dog as long as you clean up after them. There are two parts of Kamaole Beach Park, both of which are their own lovely spaces by the water with both sand and grass, as well as trees and ferns for shade.

    Wailea is a buzzing resort town in the center of Wailea-Makena. You will find plenty of family- and dog-friendly resorts if you are looking for the pawfect place to plan a vacation along the beaches. There are two beaches right next to one another in Wailea, both of which permit dogs on-leash as long as you clean up after them before you leave. You can also take your pup for a splash at Mokapu Beach Park. This park has its own walking trail right from the nearby resorts, which makes it convenient for those visiting Wailea without their own cars.

    Makena is another resort town that is visitor-friendly and dog-friendly. There are walking paths between the resorts that makes getting around pretty easy and enjoyable for your restless pup. The Po'olenalena Beach Park is an expansive beach with plenty of trees and vegetation providing shade as you make your way away from the water. You can enjoy the sun and surf all day with your dog here; just make sure you have plenty of waste bags to help keep the sands pristine. You will also need lots of towels and plenty of drinking water for both of you.

    South Makena is loved by both locals and visitors who are looking for a refined recreational beach to spend some serious time with the surf. Makena Landing is comprised of beaches and kayaking spots where you can explore plenty of green grass, soft beaches, and nautical adventures aboard a rented kayak with your pup. You will need to keep your dog leashed and make sure his verbal commands are dependable when overstimulated, as the beaches get quite busy during peak tourism months. If you are planning on renting a kayak, you will need a life jacket for both you and your dog before you head onto the water.

    Keokea is a gorgeous town to the east of Wailea-Makena. It is found in the city of Kula, right to the north of the Polipoli Spring State Recreation Area, where you can venture with your dog and some friends for an afternoon of fun in the grass and views of the gorgeous lush forests. If you are looking to stay in town, Keokea Park is a small pupperific green space where you can enjoy some time with your dog. There is playground equipment if you are visiting with kids, as well as plenty of grass for playing fetch with tennis balls or a Frisbee.
