When walking with your dog in the winter, be prepared for some frigid temperature and plenty of snow as Davenport has sub-freezing winter temperatures and an average 30 inches of snow per year. A warm coat and good footwear are a must for Davenport winters. Summers, on the other hand, are hot! Temperatures average 84 degrees Fahrenheit which can make walking during daytime hours uncomfortable. Take water so you and your pooch don't dehydrate on long walks or choose cooler times of the day to take your daily constitutional.
The Mississippi River on the south border of the district is a dominant feature and is lined with a riverfront trail and green spaces for residents to enjoy. The terrain in the downtown area is relatively flat and it is easy to travel around without having to navigate steep hills. There is lots of noise and traffic in this central business district, so make sure your dog is used to all the activity and will not be startled. Keep your pup leashed in this busy region.
The Riverfront Greenway also passes LeClaire Park and Bandshell along the riverfront. If you're lucky, maybe you will be treated to some live music as you pass by!
