The historic district of Riverview Terrace is centered around the park and bordered by the former Maycrest College campus to the northwest. The neighborhood has 21 buildings designated as historic with architectures from the late 19th and early 20th century. True to its name, there is a park here on a steep hill providing views of the river and Rock Island. Homes around the park feature Italianate, Georgian, and Federal architectural styles.

The neighborhood terrain is hilly and you and your hound will have to navigate some steep climbs while hiking in the region. Other homes further from the park feature American Craftsman and bungalow styles with large shade trees and may feature stairs or retaining walls where elevated landscaping requires them. Most streets have sidewalks for walking and some grass berms, but some streets are devoid of pedestrian paths, so plan your route when walking your dog to avoid these as much as possible.

The namesake of the region, Riverview Terrace Park, is a 3-acre park located on a very large, steep hill. It has lots of open areas with trees on the border. Paved paths with stairs provide access to the summit of the hill where a hilltop panoramic view of the river is provided. There is a gazebo picnic area and coin-operated binoculars to take in the view. Your dog can catch their breath while you appreciate your surroundings!

Jefferson Park is located nearby and this 12-acre park provides recreation facilities like a baseball field, playground, and basketball courts adjacent to the local school. Your furry friend may not be welcome on playgrounds or sports fields, but trails around the outside of the park where trees border the area are accessible to your pup and create a greenway that you can enjoy if you keep your them on a leash.
