Albany Park is located on the north side of Chicago and is 11 miles away from the downtown area of the city. It is known for being one of the most ethnically diverse neighborhoods not only in Chicago but in the country. Large Asian-American and Latin-American communities call Albany Park home. With this level of diversity, Albany Park has plenty of restaurants and ethnic grocery stores, as well as several schools, churches, and greenways. It is also home to Chicago’s 'Koreatown,' a large commercial district with Korean-owned business. While there are not many pet-related businesses in the area, there is one large and well-known national pet store for all your pup’s needs. Venturing out of the neighborhood aways will surely yield anything else you may need.

Chicago distinctly experiences all four seasons: summer, fall, winter, and spring. As both temperatures and weather can change regularly, always check the forecast before leashing up for your dog’s daily walk!

Albany Park is generally bordered by the north branch of the Chicago River on both the north and east side, West Irving Park Road to the south, and North Pulaski Road to the west. Beyond Florida, Illinois is the second-flattest state in the United States. Chicago and Albany Park are no exception, as this neighborhood is mostly flat. If you're looking for a more challenging hike, you may need to make your way outside of the city to do so.

The residential areas of the neighborhood generally have large, maintained sidewalks and grassy areas that line the streets. This will be helpful for your pet on those long walks! The more commercial areas are largely artificial and have little grassy or natural terrain. Greenways in Albany Park are primarily found along the river, but there are a few smaller parks found in the residential community. These parks generally have paved paths for residents and walkers to use.

There are six greenways in Albany Park, many of which are located along the north branch of the Chicago River. Unfortunately, there are no enclosed dog parks or runs in any of these greenways, so you'll want to make sure that you keep your dog on his leash during your visits.

Ronan Park is one of the larger greenways in Albany Park, as it is almost three acres. Besides paved paths, there is also a nature preserve with a wood-chipped path in Ronan Park. This would be perfect for you and your pup when you’re looking for a more natural feel and to escape Chicago’s urban environment! Ronan Park also has a sculpture park and garden that makes for scenic walks while also providing spaces used for cultural activities and theater performances, as well as housing a playground and sports facilities.

Other parks include Jensen Park, Turtle Park Garden, and Eugene Field Park.
