East Garfield Park is on the west side of Chicago, not far from the Loop. The neighborhood is named after the large park within it. Garfield Park occupies the entire northwest corner, and the neighborhood is also home to the Garfield Park Conservatory, which is one of the largest in the USA.

Highway 290 divides this neighborhood. This primarily residential neighborhood is rich in parks, including a collection of smaller regional parks and a dog park. Businesses and restaurants tend to be clustered along Lake Street and between the railroad tracks and West Carroll Avenue.

There are several trainers in the area, including See Spot Run and Animal Behavior Training Concepts. Little Friends Lifestyle Pet Photography is a cool place to get your dog's portrait taken, and Clean Dog will have your pup looking spiffy. This is a great neighborhood to enjoy the parks and walking on neighborhood streets, as well as the many amenities available.

This neighborhood is primarily flat, with closely spaced homes that are tall and narrow. Yards are grassy and generally unfenced, but the lack of divider between sidewalk and road throughout most of the area, coupled with the heavy pedestrian and vehicular traffic means that you will keep your dog on a close leash throughout most of the neighborhood.

Thankfully, there are plenty of parks available to you. Garfield Park is a huge area for you and your dog to explore and it offers paved trails, as well as grassy spaces that are studded with trees and the Garfield Park Lagoon with natural shorelines. It is important to expose your dog to water when she is young so that she will not develop anxiety around it. Exposing her to water in a safe and fun way is easy here, with all of the bridges available that provide access across relatively calm waters.

The huge park that this neighborhood is named for offers extensive natural space around Garfield Park Lagoon. You can stick to the trail around the lake for great loose leash walking or head closer to the shoreline so that your dog can smell all of the wild animals nearby.

Plenty of wide grassy areas give you and your dog plenty of room to relax and take it easy. Some areas of the shoreline have been allowed to go very wild, so you will get a chance to see real natural environments in this park. There are lots of other parks as well if you don't want to walk all the way to the west side of East Garfield Park.

Horan Park provides tree covered areas as well as a ball field. Park 422 is a small but attractive place to walk around while Dogwood Park gives you a little space to let your dog play off-leash with her friends.
