Bordering the I-90 Express, the community of Grand Boulevard is home to about 22,000 people and their dogs. Mostly residential, you will find single-family homes and apartments. Commerce in the area is sparse, but you do not have to walk too far to find a store or a bite to eat. There are places in the area that carry the most basic supplies for dogs but if you want anything more, you will need to head outside of the community. Veterinarian hospitals are a bit closer, but you will still need to travel a bit to access them.

Grand Boulevard is close to the lake, so expect blustery cold weather in the winter with snow and ice. Likewise, the summer weather is hot and humid, but often much easier to avoid by walking early when it is cooler. Spring and fall, on the other hand, are wonderful times to walk.

If you don’t like walking on hills, walking through Chicago is perfect for you. Beginners and elderly dogs will find the walking manageable, but younger, more active dogs may not get the full benefit from their walks. You will not find any hills at all and the only real way to get a better walk is to increase the intensity and walk for longer distances. Interval training is a great way to build up stamina and get a great work out, even if there are no hills. This is primarily an urban walk. Some areas do have grass and trees along the sidewalks, but other areas have only concrete. Some of the sidewalks are in need of repair, so keep an eye out for potential hazards. There are, however, plenty of great paths and places to walk such as a few blocks to the east where there are lake trails in abundance.

Grand Boulevard has three larger parks and many smaller greenways dispersed throughout the neighborhood. Robert Taylor Park has a total of 10 acres with plenty of grassy fields to play in. Metcalfe Park on the north section of Grand Boulevard has some pathways that can be walked, as well as trees and grass which is great for pups of all sizes.

Armstrong Park to the east has a path that goes around the park, as well as plenty of grass to enjoy. If these parks are not enough for you, you can take your furry friend to the lake greenway that has several lakeside paths to traverse or you can explore Washington Park to the south of the neighborhood. Washington Park has 366 acres, plenty of paths, and a lagoon for you and your pup to explore. It borders the southeast corner of Grand Boulevard, so it is easy walking distance from much of the neighborhood.
