I've always been around animals and dogs since I could walk, and when I was old enough to work I knew there would be no better fit than working with animals! I have volunteered at a shelter and worked professionally with animals in a retail environment. Due to a heavy school schedule I had to leave that job but now that Wag! exists I can still work with pups!

I am a semi retired professional with a passion for animals. Growing up on a farm in North Carolina I was exposed to a lot of dogs: hunting dogs, house dogs, guard dogs, herding dogs, etc. The advantage of living on the farm was that you got to play with the working animals when they weren’t working and I spent a lot of time with dogs learning valuable lessons of how they interact with people and other animals and how they think. All through my life I have been around dogs and cats. I have owned three dogs of my own and have had relationships with other dogs belonging to roommates housemates and neighbors. I am very attuned to the challenges of having a pet in the city and understand the importance of seeing that the animals get the proper attention and care. Caring for dogs is not just a job for me it’s a passion and it’s important that I give each dog I encounter the same attention that I would give my own dog.

Dog Walking in Des Plaines

Next to one of the largest airports in the country, Chicago o’Hare, lies the city of Des Plaines. This suburb is named after the Des Plaines River that flows through the center of the city. The river is, however, not the only remnant of mother nature that is left behind. The Cook County Council is dedicated to preserving the forests and woodlands of this area, and that is great news for local dog owners.

Even better news is the choice of incorporating dog parks in several of the regional parks in the country. These dog parks are part of larger parks and offer off-leash play possibilities. To maintain the quality of these off-leash dog parks entrance to the parks is members only. The three off-leash dog parks constructed and operated by Cook County are the Beck Lake Dog Park, Forest Park Dog Park, and Bremen Grove.

The Beck Lake Dog Park is the largest of these parks and located in Des Plaines, Illinois. This off-leash dog park offers a massive 44 acres of open fields and exciting trails through the forests. There is even a large pond for dogs to swim in. The area is completely fenced off and is the perfect opportunity for dogs to run around and enjoy themselves.

Des Plaines is a popular destination for travelers due to its close vicinity to the airport. There are a lot of hotels in and around the city, with several of them allowing dogs for an additional fee including the Extended Stay Deluxe and the Comfort Inn.
