Frankfort, Indiana is a city in rural Indiana, nestled between some larger cities like Indianapolis and Lafayette. There are a few dog-friendly hotels and four veterinary clinics here, but to find some attractions that welcome dogs, you should plan to take a trip to one of the neighboring towns, like Kokomo and Carmel, or nearby cities.
You can visit Lafayette, which is about 25 miles north of Frankfort and has several restaurants and hotels that welcome dogs. You’ll even find a training center and a dog park! The Shamrock Dog Park will leave your dog howling for some more fun when he’s done. This double-gated run has plenty of space for energetic dogs to play and get some sunshine.
Or, try Indianapolis, which is about 46 miles south of Frankfort. The city is bursting with parks and dining spots for dogs. Some shops are even dog-friendly, like Silver in the City, a jewelry store that welcomes leashed dogs inside. Hop on the Monon Trail or IWC Canal Greenway for some hiking in the great outdoors.
Although Frankfort doesn’t offer much for doggies and their owners, you can find several small towns and large cities a short drive away from Frankfort with restaurants, shops, and parks for your pooch.
Forest Park in Kokomo will take you about 32 miles away from Frankfort, but it’s the pawfect neighborhood for you and your furry friend to visit. This neighborhood has not one, but two doggie parks that she’s sure to love. Mehlig Mini Mutt is one of them, and this fenced-in place caters to the smallest dogs to keep them feeling safe. The park sits next to a larger park called the Mehlig Dog Park. This park welcomes dogs of all breeds and sizes to play with each other! You can also visit Mehlig Park itself with your leashed pup for some quality time outdoors.
The Downtown neighborhood of Kokomo is also about 32 miles from Frankfort. You can check out some dog-friendly restaurants in the Downtown area, like Cook McDoogal’s Irish Pub, which has an Irish-inspired menu and some outdoor seating for pups and their owners. 3 Amigos is a local favorite for Mexican dishes, from authentic to more casual. Call ahead if you’d like to dine with your pooch at one of the outdoor tables. You can also try Main Street Café for a quick breakfast, yummy sandwich or panini, or even your morning coffee. The sidewalk tables are pawfect for a cozy bite to eat.
The Carmel Arts & Design District in Carmel is one pawtastic place that people not only love to visit for its rich artistry and culture, but also for its dog-friendly activities for pups and their owners. This neighborhood is about 37.5 miles from Frankfort. Canine Cloud Nine is in the Arts & Design District, bringing dogs some of the healthiest organic treats around. Stop here for dog food and goodies made with fresh ingredients like fruits and veggies! The neighborhood also has several restaurants that welcome dogs at outdoor tables, like Mudbugs Cajun Café, Bub’s Burgers & Ice Cream, and Muldoon’s.
If you’re looking for some paw-friendly restaurants, Woodland Springs in Carmel likely has what you need! It’s about 39 miles from Frankfort, but it offers a lot of yummy variety. Mellow Mushroom is the place for pizza-loving dogs and their owners, offering up some tasty pizza combinations, calzones, salads, and more. Wolfies Grill is a casual sports bar that’s a great place for a night out with friends and dogs. McAlister’s Deli is a place you’d want to visit for a quick lunch or a vegetarian meal. Take your pick and enjoy a meal at an outdoor table at one of Woodland Springs’ restaurants!
Just under 31 miles from Frankfort is the S Main Street area of Zionsville. Check out the Three Dog Bakery, a place your furry friend is sure to fall in love with. This place caters to the dog in your life, offering yummy and decorated dog treats, cakes, biscuits, and more. Your pup is even welcome to join you in the bakery to pick out her own goodies. You can also enjoy a meal with your dog at one of a few restaurants in the area that welcomes dogs, like Greek’s Pizzeria. Cobblestone Grill is a local favorite with some outdoor seating for pooches that serves some of the most popular American-inspired foods.
