The Downtown Louisville Kentucky neighborhood is the central business district, hub of Louisville, and the largest business center in Kentucky. The Downtown Louisville district is located centrally along the Ohio River. There are two bridges that land here which bring plenty of traffic to the area. Dogs that are not used to noise and traffic can be startled. The terrain is flat, so hills are not an issue when walking the region. There are many historic buildings in this unique area and new modern architecture alongside historic architecture creates a one-of-a-kind effect. A glassed-in skywalk stretches for six city blocks and links a convention center and hotels in the region. The tallest buildings in Kentucky are located here with high rise office towers and residential buildings near the river. Much of the rest of the downtown area, however, consists of lower rise, multi-story buildings. Many newer residential developments in downtown Louisville consists of lofts and condominiums that have been developed in old converted warehouse spaces and are now home to many types of families.

Louisville Waterfront Park is located along the Ohio River in the downtown area and provides various greenways along the water. There is also a unique pedestrian bridge located here, however, pets are not allowed on the bridge or in the water features or playgrounds. Dogs are allowed in the other areas of the park on a leash and there are miles of trails to enjoy in this park with your pooch. Bike and boat rental are available in this park so you can teach your dog to run alongside a bike or ride in a boat for a new fun experience with your pup!

The Riverwalk located along the river to the north of the downtown area provides a beautiful, waterfront greenway that area pet owners can enjoy. Other downtown area parks with greenways, rest areas, lovely shade trees, and open areas include Boone Square Park, Baxter Park, Old Walnut Street Park, and Fort Nelson Park.
