The Louisville metropolitan area has 122 city parks, many of which welcome leashed dogs on their trails and paths. Louisville is also home to the largest municipal urban forest in the country, the Jefferson Memorial Forest. With more than 35 miles of trails winding through beautiful woodland scenery, this area is perfect for a daytime hike, or hike, with your best four-legged friend.

For a more relaxed setting where your whole family can spend a day out in the sun, visit the Waterfront Park. This Park covers 85 acres and was completed in three phases, with open spaces for events, smaller spaces for picnics and parties, and walkways connecting them all together. Take your pup along the river or after wearing your pup down, sit back together with a good book.

The Louisville Dog Run Association operates dog parks in the city, overseeing eight official off-leash runs. The Sawyer Dog Park is located within the E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park and has six acres where your dog can run freely with friends. Though there is an annual membership fee for access to the park, the money goes back towards the dog parks, ensuring that you and your pup always have a well-maintained place to visit.

It is fully fenced in, and there is a playground close by if you and your canine compadre are accompanied by little ones. After you've tired out your pup at the park, head over to Dirty Tease, a T-shirt shop that welcomes four-legged guests. Choose from one of their pre-made, dog-themed shirt designs, or have them make a custom shirt for you to broadcast your love for your hound to the world. As long as your pup is well-behaved and on a leash, they'll be happy to have you look around the store.
