Huron Village is located in West Cambridge about a half-mile west of Harvard Square. It is an extension of the Observatory Hill neighborhood heading toward Fresh Pond. Huron Village is more of a business area than a residential area, so expect a sidewalk experience for your canine friend. The climate in West Cambridge is moderate to fair in the summer months but can dip down in the winter months. Despite this, the area is overall an excellent experience for dog walking. If you pass by Formaggio Kitchen, the café tables out front welcome dogs so feel free to stop in and enjoy a selection of sandwiches made daily!

The Cambridge area can be relatively chilly in the winter, so keep that in mind as you start to venture out during those later months. A jacket or booties may be necessary during your daily outings, so have them handy for when you need them!

Huron Village is flat, business-filled area with pedestrian and automotive traffic which can require a bit of care to avoid. The flat terrain, however, can be ideal for those who are not quite experienced. Huron Avenue is the major thoroughfare in this neighborhood with four lanes and on-street parking, so make sure you secure your canine friend with a sturdy six-foot leash and are paying attention to traffic laws. Good walking shoes are a must for this neighborhood as you will find concrete sidewalks as the main paths. Consider the health of your canine friend in hot months as the pavement can heat up quickly and hurt sensitive paws. There are trees and awnings throughout the neighborhood so shade is available should you need it!  There are also private homes scattered throughout, so be aware of stopping or straying onto private property whenever you decide to take a quick break to stop and breathe.

Huron Village tends to be a bit of a sidewalk-only experience, so do not expect to find many greenways in this neighborhood. The greenways you will find along your walk will most likely be private property, so be prepared to clean up any messes your canine friend might make. However, if you head west on Huron Avenue towards Fresh Pond, you will find a welcoming public park that includes the Fresh Pond Reservation Dog Park. The dog park is reserved for Cambridge resident pets to be off-leash with two ponds for swimming which can help keep your pup cool on hotter days. The other areas of the park require your pup to stay on a leash with reminders to keep out of restoration areas and to not chase any of the wildlife, so pay attention to any signage. This is a large park area that surrounds the pond and can be a relaxing walk.
