I'm a fur momma of 2 pups, one very hyperactive 4 year old and the other with a personality of an old grouchy man. I have spent my entire life owning several dogs at a time. I am also very familiar with active, large dogs all the way down to small, timid ones. I am 100% that person who would rather have a pupper cuddle puddle while watching some Netflix on a Saturday night rather than leaving them home alone.

Dog Walking in Kalamazoo

If you love dogs, you will love Kalamazoo, Michigan because the people living there have close to 50,000 of them as pets. That means there are plenty of dog-friendly activities that you and Fido can enjoy while you are there. If you want to do some hiking check out Al Sabo Nature Preserve on Texas Drive. This 740-acre natural reserve has over eight miles of trails for all skill levels, and you will see tons of wildlife while walking along the Portage Creek. There are plenty of amazing marshlands, meadows full of wildflowers, and wooded areas that will make you think you are in the middle of nowhere.

There are a couple of parks you can let Fido off the leash while you take a break. Meadow Run on South 8th Street is 24 acres of fun with a pond, exercise equipment, and even a place to wash him off before you get in the car. Prairie View Park on East U Avenue has seven acres of woods and meadows for your pup to play, and there are bathrooms and water for drinking.

After you get worn out you can get a room at one of the hotels in Kalamazoo. The TownePlace Suites on South 9th Street or the Baymont Inn on South 11th Street are both dog-friendly. Also, on Cork Street you can go to either the Clarion or the Red Roof Inn.

Fairmont Dog Park is new to Northside and is a great place to take your dog for a nice off-leash run. There is plenty of water and shade available, but you must register your dog with the park before entering. If your dog gets a little dirty while at the park, take them to Wags by Connie. Wags offers a stress-free grooming experience that will leave your dog feeling happy and smelling great. If you and your dog need a good drink before heading home, try out Boatyard Brewing Company or Green Door Distilling Co, as both allow your dog indoors!

Al Sabo Nature Preserve is right on the outskirts of the Texas Charter Township. This beautiful 8 mile nature preserve offers hiking and biking trails, is completely free, and is open 24 hours a day. Beware of the bugs and ticks that may crawl on you or your pup, and be sure to have protection. If you’re looking for a smaller trail to enjoy with your dog, then try the Texas Township Trailway. This trail is just as great as Al Sabo Nature Preserve, but a little smaller for your dog to enjoy, which is great if your pup is new to exploring.
