University District is a Missoula neighborhood that features more than just the University of Montana campus. Encompassing most of southeastern Missoula, the neighborhood features nature trails, city streets to explore, and, of course, a bustling university campus. During your walk in the University District, you'll stroll past historic craftsman homes and quiet residential streets while taking in the surrounding mountain views.

If you're feeling like pampering your pooch, there's a pet grooming and supply store in the southern part of the neighborhood and, a few blocks away, is the Blue Mountain Vet Hospital. While you're planning your walk in Missoula, Montana, keep the weather in mind, as it changes drastically throughout the year. Summer temperatures can reach the 90s, while winter brings below-freezing temperatures. Plan morning or evenings walks in the summer when sidewalks are cooled and storms have passed. In the winter, plan afternoon walks during sunny days to ensure ice has melted.

Despite its mountainous location, much of Missoula is fairly flat with a few hills here and there. The University District itself provides easy-to-walk, flat streets. You may encounter some hills, especially if you wander down the trail areas, but if you want to avoid them, stick to the city streets. There's plenty of natural beauty to enjoy throughout the area and, no matter where you are in the University District, you'll find breathtaking views of the towering Rocky Mountains.

Many of the community's streets are lined with trees and feature plenty of grassy spots for a quick break. You'll find a mix of quiet neighborhood streets as well as a few busy roadways, mostly in the northern part of the University District. While the city is extremely walkable and welcoming to you and your pup, always stay cautious when you're trying to cross streets.

Acting as a gateway to the Rocky Mountains and the wonder of Glacier National Park, Missoula is itself truly an outdoor city and the University District stays true to that. In the southern part of the neighborhood is a sprawling golf course and, adjacent to it, is Campbell Park, where you'll find athletic fields and a few trails. In the northern part of the area, you'll find miles of walking trails along the Clark Fork River, connecting several different parks. Head east and you'll come upon the K. Williams Natural Trail Area where you and your pet can do some hiking to enjoy stunning views of the city.

The entire state is also extremely pet-friendly, so you'll find many places that welcome your pup. If you want to enjoy a really unique dog park, head across the river to Jacobs Island where the Bark Park features six acres of space to let Fido run free.
