Not to be confused with the infamous Robin Hood's hiding place and home, Sherwood Forest is a residential neighborhood located in Charlotte, North Carolina. Sherwood Forest does not have too many commercial spaces as a whole, but you will find several churches of different denominations sprinkled throughout the neighborhood. You can also find a bakery and a nationally-known fast food chain. Residentially, Sherwood Forest is largely composed of standalone homes meant for one family.

Charlotte, or the Queen City, is one of the largest in North Carolina. It sits on the border and is home to a busy airport, universities, museums, an amusement park, and professional sports teams! This city boosts a lively cultural district with several theaters, its own opera, and a ballet company too.

Charlotte and Sherwood Forest experience four distinct seasons throughout the year. Winters tend to bring minimal snowfall and chilly temperatures. Summers tend to be hot and very humid, with plenty of rainfall.

Unfortunately, only parts of Sherwood Forest have well-maintained sidewalks. This means you and your beloved furry friend may need to share the roadways with other pedestrians, pups, cyclists, and motorists. Either way, you should always be aware of your surroundings and maintain tight control over Spot's leash. Additionally, if you are walking at night, it is recommended to have something reflective whether that is a pedestrian safety vest or a reflective leash for your pup.

Additionally, Sherwood Forest, like many Charlotte suburban neighborhoods, can be quite hilly. There are both rolling hills and sudden, dramatically steep inclines throughout this residential community. So, if you or your pup have any mobility issues, be sure to scope out your walking routes prior to heading out the door.

The boundaries of Sherwood Forest include North Sharon Amity Road to the north, Rama Road and railroad tracks to the east, Sardis Road to the south, and Randolph Road to the west.

Unlike its name may suggest, there is, unfortunately,  only one greenway located in Sherwood Forest and it is the recreational fields of the Rama Road Elementary School. Sadly, this one is not open to our furry friends, no matter how well-behaved they may be.

Thankfully, there are some parks in surrounding neighborhoods. These include Mason Wallace Park, East Park, Oakhurst Park, Calaway Park, Randolph Road Park, James Boyce Park, and McAlpine Creek Park. Many of these are smaller parks located in residential communities and they typically have a small playground, some benches, and maybe a paved walking path.

McAlpine Creek Park is even home to a local dog park: Fetching Meadows. Only four miles from Sherwood Forest, Fetching Meadows is an off-leash, fenced-in area for your pup to run around in and meet other local dogs! Just be sure to always clean up after your pup when visiting this local, beloved dog park.
