Located on the banks of the Barnegat Bay, Forked River is home to so much natural beauty. With everything waterfront parks to dog-friendly restaurants, as well as a highly rated animal hospital, this town has everything you need for a pawsome time with your pooch.
There are a few different parks worth exploring in Forked River, but one of the finest is Eno's Pond County Park. Having opened in 1998, this is a relatively new park, but has become a haven for local wildlife, with everything from snapping turtles to blue herons calling this park their home. Also within the park is a boardwalk leading to an observation deck, a playground, and several short walking trails.
For another walk in the wilderness, head to the Forked River Wildlife Management Area. There are over 3000 acres of hills, valleys, forests and more to explore here, as well as several different plant and animal species living in these grounds.
After walking up an appetite, treat your pooch to a meal at Fusciello's. This Italian butcher and deli specialize in freshly made items, with four dog-friendly tables for you and Fido to dine at together.
With so many different activities to choose from, Forked River is a town that will definitely tire your pooch out.
Some of the best walks in Forked River can be found in the Forked River Beach/ Forked River Point neighborhood, as this is where two of the town's most scenic parks are located. Begin at the Forked River Beach Bay Front Parks, which offers stunning views of the bay, with telescopes to help you to better see your surroundings, along with a playground, a fitness station and picnic benches. Not too far away is the Vincent Clune Park. This park mostly consists of various sports fields and facilities, but does have a paved path that is pawfect for a stroll with Fido.
The Lanoka Harbor neighborhood of Lanoka Harbor sits right next to Forked River, and is home to a couple of parks that your pooch will love. The William Hebrew Park is the one most popular with children, thanks to its large, modern playground. The park also boasts a tennis court, a picnic pavilion, a fitness station and a half mile paved pathway. This neighborhood also provides access to Gille Park, where you will find a hockey rink, several sports fields, a play area, and dense wooded patches, with plenty of exciting smells to get Fido's tail wagging. Dogs are welcome in both parks, but you will need to bring a lead with you, as well as some doggie bags and drinking water.
The neighborhood of Sands Point in Waretown is adjacent to Forked River, and, with its waterfront setting, offers up some picturesque dog walks. Both of the parks in this neighborhood are located right on the water's edge, with Dock Avenue Park being the larger of the two. This is largely a passive park, but does have a gazebo and a few fishing spots. Just a short walk down the road is Oyster Creek Park, where you will find tennis courts, a basketball court, a boat ramp, a playground, and a patch of woodland that is pawfect for a dog walk, so long as you keep your pooch on a lead at all times.
Less than a mile from Forked River is the Waretown neighborhood of Skippers Cove, and there are a couple of green areas that are definitely worth a visit here. Start with the spacious Lighthouse Drive Park, which is a passive park that sits right by the marina, offering up colorful waterfront views and plenty of trees to sniff about in. Just a short walk away from here is Knots Landing Park, another passive park that sits by the water. This park boasts a couple of paved paths that will make it much easier for you and Fido to make your way around the dense covering of trees.
The Town Center of Bayville is less than a mile from Forked River, and although this may be quite a busy part of Bayville, there is a large and tranquil park here that takes you away from the hustle and bustle of town. The William J. Dudley Park has quite a bit of history behind it, and is now a pawtastic example of the region's rugged natural beauty. There are several recreational activities offered here, from swimming to canoeing to kayaking, as well as a walking trail for you and your pooch to stroll on. If your pup prefers sand to grass, head on over to the park's small beach, where the two of you can frolic about right by the water's edge.
