Charleston Heights is located 10 minutes west of Las Vegas, Nevada’s downtown core. This is a residential neighborhood, however, there is a commercial area to the west on Washington Avenue where local convenience stores, fast food eateries, and other services are available.

Dog owners can access two unique pet supply shops in this commercial area: Puppy Zone and Priscilla's Pantry.

Las Vegas is situated in a desert at a high altitude and, as such, sees some temperature extremes. Winters are mild, but it cools down rapidly at night. Snow is rare and winter days tend to be dry and sunny with a little more precipitation occurring in February. Summer days are extremely hot. Even at night, temperatures, although cooler, can remain warm. Take your furry friend on shorter walks at times of the day when temperatures are not as extreme and pack lots of water for you and your pup on excursions.

Charleston Heights is a linear strip of low rise apartments. These apartment buildings feature flat roofs, pastel colors, and adobe-style architecture. There are gated courtyards between buildings with some desert-friendly landscaping on the property.

Washington Avenue is the main thoroughfare that runs on the north side and has a bike lane running along it in the front of the buildings. Watch for heavier traffic and cyclists on the main road. There is a sidewalk running along the main road that provides a separate safe walkway for pets and pedestrians while an unnamed laneway provides access to parking areas on the south side.

The terrain is flat and there are no steep grades to hike up on hot summer days which would be strenuous. An elementary school is situated on the south side of Charleston Heights and there are quiet residential areas in the surrounding areas that make pleasant walking locations for you and your canine companion.

Charleston Heights is just north of an open field located at the Pittman Elementary school.  The field is grassy with some small trees around the border. When sports teams and students are using the property, it is not accessible to people and dogs, but you can visit with your leashed pet when not in use.

Just a few blocks to the north, Charleston Heights locals and their canine companions can walk to Coleman Park. This greenway has a playground, picnic sites, a shade structure, and a horseshoe pit. There is an open field with some trees on a grassy area that provides shady spots. You can rest on the grass in the shade under some of the larger trees with your pup and take a break on a hot summer day. A paved walking path with a green paver surface is a great place to stroll with your pup and take in this pretty park.
