East Aurora is a charming village in Erie County, southeast of the city of Buffalo. The village itself is surrounded by acres of farmland and rural properties while retaining an artistic, whimsical aura in the town proper. East Aurora is perhaps best known for its association with Elbert Hubbard, the famous American writer, artist, and philosopher renowned for the arts-and-crafts style Roycroft Movement. His quotes of wisdom and artwork can be found throughout the village. Overall, East Aurora provides a unique, walkable neighborhood as well as some nearby parks that are perfect locations for walking a dog.

The weather in spring, summer, and fall is generally comfortable and pleasant. In spring and fall, a long-sleeved shirt or light jacket may be necessary due to cooler temperatures. Winters can be harsh due to heavy snowfall which may make walking or driving through the village slippery and difficult. Appropriate snow gear will be needed, as well as proper protection for your dog.

East Aurora's neighborhoods are highly walkable with flat terrain. The area doesn't offer much of a challenge, but luckily, the area offers an array of options for those looking for more of a hike. Outside of the village, areas are moderately hilly but still easy to navigate and manage. The only exception is during the winter when road and sidewalks may be icy and snow-covered, making travel difficult. Avoid going into these hillier areas when the weather is rough.

There are many green spaces to explore while walking with your pup. These neighborhoods feature older homes and period-piece mansions with carefully landscaped yards and gardens and gorgeous flowers to see when they're in season. Immediately outside the village are acres of farmland, and like the parks nearby, these areas are more easily accessible by car than on foot. Exercise caution when crossing major streets and pay attention to traffic signals and lights.

In the village of East Aurora, there are plenty of greenways in the surrounding neighborhoods that make for pleasant walking experiences. Hamlin Park, the only small park within the village, does not allow dogs. However, two larger parks just over the village border are havens for dog walkers and their canine companions.

Majors Park is a small park with a boardwalk through a short nature trail. The real gem of East Aurora parks is Knox Farm State Park with 633 acres of land to explore. Better yet, there is a separate space in Knox Farm that is home to a popular dog park with separate sections for large and smaller breeds. Waste bags are available in stations around the park as well as a rinsing station for dogs who get muddy. This large park is used by the public, including other dog walkers, runners, hikers, and horseback riders, so keep your dog under control at all times.
