East Tremont is slightly hilly. Tall apartment buildings are spaced flush together and the buildings push right against the sidewalk, so walking along these city streets feels a little tight. Some areas have wider sidewalks and long straight streets with gentle hills, so if you plan your route, some areas of this city can be fun for being on wheels with your dog.

Crotona Park is primarily ballpark, but there are some nice walking trails through the forest around Indian Pond. This little pond is a gentle way to introduce your dog to water for the first time.

The New York Botanical Garden isn’t far and is a lovely place to stroll around with your dog. You can’t go into the Bronx Zoo with your pup, but they will enjoy being able to hear and smell the exotic wilderness if you walk near the perimeter.

While East Tremont itself may feel a little tight, there is plenty of natural area nearby for you to enjoy with your dog. Crotona Park is mostly a ballpark, but it also has a lovely little pond and forested area for you and your dog to enjoy. Claremont Park has lots of walking trails winding through a forest with intermittent clearings and it is only a couple of blocks away so you can easily incorporate both parks into your walk.

A little further on, you will come to the Harlem River. The charming Harlem River and Highbridge Parks cover many blocks along the water. This is a perfect place to enjoy being on wheels with your dog since you will get breezes off of the water.

Another ten blocks towards the Hudson River will take you to a long series of parks including Fort Tryon Park and Inwood Hill Park, all of which provide gorgeous forested exploration along the river.
