If you’re in the northwest region of the Bronx, it’s likely that you’re not far from Norwood, a residential neighborhood in the area, also sometimes known as Bainbridge. This community of around 40,000 people borders the Van Cortland Park and Woodlawn Cemetery to the north. Jerome Park is located just west of Norwood while, if you head southwards, you’ll reach the New York Botanical Gardens.

E & N Pet Paradise Shop is a pet care store in the northeast of the area on East Gun Hill Road. Alternatively, if you’re looking for something larger, there is a Petland Discounts on Jerome Avenue in the west of Norwood. For veterinary services, you’ll have to head southwards into Fordham Manor. Here, you’ll find the Armory Dog and Cat Hospital on East Kingsbridge Road. The Tri-Boro Animal Hospital can be found on Lurting Avenue just east of Norwood in Pelham Gardens and is easily accessed from the neighboring areas.

Norwood is located on a ridge that runs northwards through the Bronx. Therefore, it is located at a slightly higher elevation than some of the surrounding areas. Directly to the east of the neighborhood, there is a valley that dips between two large ridges. The topography of the area defines its boundaries and this valley marks the border between Norwood and Gun Hill Houses. The rest of the neighborhood is located at a higher altitude, however, it isn’t drastically hilly so you’ll only come across a few inclines that may get your heart rate rising.

Just like most of the Bronx, Norwood is entirely artificial terrain. This is unsurprising when you understand its inner-city location, so don’t expect to find much truly wild land. Your walks will generally be spent on sidewalks and pedestrian crossings, so if you’re looking for something a little more natural, head towards one of the area’s greenways.

One of the biggest benefits of Norwood is its proximity to large parks and greenways. While the neighborhood itself is not exactly bursting with natural terrain, you’re never far from somewhere that will give you that boost that nature can provide.

Van Cortland Park is located just north of the area, providing miles of walking trails for you and your pooch to wander around. At its center, you’ll find a large lake that is perfect for letting your dog have a little dip in. Mosholu Parkway is a long and thin greenway that runs along the area’s western border. This landscaped park is surrounded by a few busy highways but still provides a pleasant grassy area to visit when nearby.

The Williamsbridge Oval is located at the center of Norwood. This is a recreation ground built on the site of an old reservoir. There is a dog run also located here, making it ideal for locals on their daily walks.
