In a city where every piece of real-estate and living space is bought and sold at a premium, trying to find a quiet corner you can afford can be an impossible task. Columbia St. is a tiny sliver of a neighborhood on the wrong side of the Express Way that, because of its location, had fallen on hard times. Revitalization has brought this tiny neighborhood new life and made it a place that many are happy to call home.

There is still a good bit of industry here, but other than that, the area is mostly residential with a smattering of small businesses. It does mean that gathering important services for your pup could pose a problem, but it rarely causes an issue for residents who would gladly trade convenience for NYC solitude. Weather in New York has extremes, but there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy a day out! Don't be afraid to venture outside on an ideal day.

Flat like most of New York and the surrounding areas, Columbia St. in Brooklyn won’t give you a really good workout easily. Depending on your situation, that might not matter too much. If you are just looking to get your pup out in the fresh air, you will find plenty of that on the shores of the bay. This area is not big, but the Brooklyn Bridge Park Greenway will ensure that longer distances are possible for walkers and joggers living in the area. Expect to walk mostly on hard surfaces unless you seek out many of the greenways along the way. There is not much in the way of grass on the city sidewalks, but you will find a few trees on most streets. There is also access to the waterfront available to the north and, if you walk up far enough, there is sand that you and your pup can sink your feet into.

It seems that all New York neighborhoods have plenty of greenways and Columbia St. is no exception. If the greenways in Columbia St. are not enough for you and your adventurous partner in crime, just to the north, there is enough green, water, and sand for any NYC pup. Urban Meadow in the center of the neighborhood offers a nice patch of green to either relax in or take your pup for a romp in the grass. There are several community gardens in the area that might be a nice place to stop but won't provide much of a place for your dog to play. If you really want to give your dog a place to run, head north into Brooklyn Heights and take advantage of the parks on the pier as well as the beach and the Brooklyn Bridge Park Greenway trails. Lots of walking, green grass, trees, and sand await you!
