“A dog loves you more than itself”
My name is Makenzie. I graduated college with a bachelor's degree in animal science with a canine concentration. I worked at an animal shelter for about a year working around animals with numerous different kinds of behaviors, while working at the shelter I was an adoption counselor, I helped to match families with a dog that fit their wants and lifestyle needs as well. I currently work at an animal hospital as a veterinarian assistant which also gives me more experience in a different way!

“Puppies. Seniors. Special Needs. No problem!”
-CONTACTLESS. HAVE MY OWN MASK. IMMUNOCOMPRIMISED.- I've had the pleasure of taking care of all sorts of breeds, and special needs pups, young and old. I normally carry some of my own stuff with me, like treats and leads, etc. So if you happen to be missing something, it shouldn't be a problem. I have no problem cleaning up after dogs, and if they need something special, I can take care of it. -A little note, because I am a small woman, I do have someone walking with me to be safe.-

Nestled in between several New York state forests, the town of Middle Grove is an amazing place to call home! If you are looking to move somewhere with plenty of fresh air that is a short drive to bigger cities, Middle Grove is a great place to add to your list! The town was once a heavy industrial area. The name of the town has changed over the years; it was once called Jamesville in honor of the man that was responsible for most of its development in the late 1700s.
Saratoga Springs is a community just a short drive away that's home to some dog-friendly places worth sniffing out! 5 Point Market and Deli is a pupperific restaurant full of tasty treats! It is a great place to go get a fresh cup of coffee and indulge in a sweet treat while making new friends at the outdoor tables. They serve breakfast all day if you are having a late start and need a little help getting going with your pooch!
There is one animal hospital in Middle Grove and a few more in nearby towns. The staff at any of these hospitals will care for your fur baby like one of their own.
Middle Grove is a small village, but there is plenty of open space for you to explore during your afternoon walks with your pup. The Middle Grove Town Park is more than 12 acres of land for you to walk and play the day away. You can walk the trail, or you can just stroll around as you please watching everyone play tennis, basketball, soccer, and softball! If you are taking your pup to the park, make sure you have some waste bags and drinking water to make the trip go smoothly! There are usually plenty of other pups there as well.
Middle Grove State Forest is a puptastic place for you and your dog to spend a day together just bonding and getting back in touch with nature. This 573-acre forest doesn't have any designated trails, but many hikers use the old logging roads as trails. You can also bike, ski, and ride horses in the park if you come back without Sparky! There are plenty of bird and mammal species throughout the forest, from owls to coyotes. If you are vigilant, you may even spot a beaver dam from the road! Make sure you keep your pup on-leash and bring plenty of water.
Daketown State Forest is just a few minutes outside of Middle Grove in the neighboring town of Greenfield Center. This forest is over 500 acres full of a variety of tree species. There is also a variety of wildlife for you to observe and enjoy while hiking through the forest with your pup. Porcupines and skunks have been reported in this forest, so make sure you stay alert and vigilant while making your way through this natural oasis so that you and your pooch don't run into any unpleasant surprises. Black bears have also been sighted over the years, so keep your eyes and ears sharp!
Lake Desolation State Forest is north of the town of Middle Grove, and it's more than 400 acres of trees, glacial lakes, and wetlands for you and Spot to admire. The state forest has a deep history in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, as well as technological development. The only trails are unofficial ones worn in by years of other hikers, so you have lots of options for exploring this amazing place. There are nearby camping grounds as well if you are looking to unplug from your daily life for a few days and reconnect with your pup and the land around you.
The Lincoln Mountain State Forest is about 20 minutes from Middle Grove. It is well worth the drive, with more than 900 acres of natural beauty to appreciate with your pup. There are many unmarked old logging roads that are open for hiking, biking and more! Songbirds, owls, and hawks all call this forest home and live there virtually undisturbed all year long. Small mammals also run abundantly through the brush. Coyotes are reported to roam the forest and have been photographed on occasion by quiet and patient visitors. Make sure you bring plenty of water and snacks for energy if you plan on sniffing out this forest!
