The Boerum Hill area is mostly flat in spite of its name! The area has a traditional grid pattern layout for streets with sidewalks present along roadways for pedestrian traffic. Streets are tree lined and multi-story buildings provide plenty of shade. The area consist of multi-story brownstones, townhouses and apartments. Many multi-story buildings along main roadways have retail and commercial space at street level and there are plenty of unique shops and eateries in the area. Residents can enjoy plenty of different sights and sounds in the neighborhood.
Although this is considered a quiet neighborhood by New York standards, there is still lots of traffic and busy thoroughfares. Watch out when walking with your dog in the area, keeping him leashed as you watch for traffic at busy intersections, alleys, and parking lots. Enjoy the mature landscaping in this well established neighborhood with lots of different buildings to take in.
There are several community gardens in Boerum Hill. While these are not accessible for pets, they can be enjoyed from adjacent sidewalks. Located in the neighborhood, the North Pacific Playground has a play area and equipment for local children. Although these areas are not dog accessible, the entire Boerum Hill area has plenty of tree lined streets to enjoy waking with your dog and the entire neighborhood provides an interesting and pleasant place to take a stroll.
Nearby Fort Greene Park is located northeast of Boerum Hill and has many amenities. It is dog friendly, allowing some off leash activity, but is not fenced, so make sure your dog will come when called. This park is accessible for residents in the northeast Boerum Hill area on foot.
Off leash dog parks are located along the waterfront in parks and greenways and have fenced in areas where your dog can safely jump off leash with other pooches.
