Forest Hills, known as ‘Whitepot’ in times gone by, is set in the eastern region of the borough of Queens. The area is bordered by the famous Flushing Meadows Corona Park and is well connected by various freeways and interchanges. Its northern boundary is usually set as the Long Island Expressway that takes traffic all the way into Manhattan. To the south, you have Jackie Robinson Parkway and the area of Forest Park. Woodhaven Boulevard is set to the west of Forest Hills while its eastern border is the Grand Central Parkway.
Forest Hills has a variety of amenities, meaning you’ll find everything you need for your puppy friend from grooming services to animal shelters. RawK9Food can be found on Austin Avenue. This small business provides your pooch with all the healthy raw food needed to keep the spring in their step. Nearby on Queens Boulevard you’ll find Boulevard Animal Clinic for veterinary services.
While the name Forest Hills suggests acres of lush woodland set over numerous rolling inclines, this is actually rather far from the reality. Let’s not forget that Forest Hills is part of Queens, so the terrain is almost entirely artificial. The majority of the land is made up of residential housing, sidewalks, and asphalt. This is ideal for a casual stroll as the surfaces are even, but if you’re looking for truly wild terrain, Forest Hills is not what you’re after.
So what about the name ‘Hills’? It’s not actually entirely misleading. But while the area is not totally flat, it’s also no San Francisco either. You’ll find soft rolling hills that shouldn’t cause you too much struggle, but if your fitness levels aren’t up to scratch, you may wish to push your bike up some of the area’s steepest slopes. Wherever you are in Forest Hills, a casual wander shouldn’t cause any problem for you or your pooch.
Directly within the boundaries of Forest Hills, you’ll find numerous community playgrounds that are worth a quick look on a short after-work walk. However, the area is lucky to be bounded by two larger greenways that should provide you with enough space to run, jump, and play to your heart’s content. Flushing Meadows Corona Park is located to the east of the area and just across the Grand Central Parkway. This huge green space has two large lakes, various artistic monuments, as well as loads of other activities including a zoo!
Forest Park, just south of Forest Hills, can provide you with the woodland area you’ve been craving. It features a whole host of hiking trails, a variety of trees, and plenty of space for your pooch to roam off the leash and explore! Forest Hills is really ideal for accessing large greenways so your puppy friend will never be disappointed in this area.
