Midtown West, also known as Hell’s Kitchen or Clinton, is located in central Manhattan, just West of Midtown! Shocker! It runs along the eastern shore of the Hudson River between 34th and 59th. This is a bustling area with tons of dog-friendly restaurant patios, but not many parks. With close proximity to Broadway theatres and Midtown’s business district, Clinton is a hot residential spot for aspiring artists and bigwigs alike. It’s known for its grub, clubs, and proximity to the hub! Central Park is literally a block from this neighborhood’s northeast corner so whether you prefer a walk through the city or a day in the park, Clinton lends you the option for both.

New York weather can be typically mild in summer, but freezing in the winter. Expect snowfall and even some blizzard conditions in the colder months. A warm winter coat for both you and your pup might be necessary.

It’s New York City, baby! You can count on Clinton being mostly artificial when it comes to terrain. Commercial and residential spots line the streets and there are renowned restaurants on every block so there are lots of smells to smell and places to pop in for a snack if you get too hungry. Expect the sidewalks to be pretty busy throughout the day for this reason. Though it’s urban, Clinton has plenty of colorful trees peppered into storefronts that give the vibrant city even more color. For the most part, this neighborhood is flat so your physical exertion will come only in the form of weaving through bodies on the teeming streets. This could be the most beneficial for pups that are a little older or can't quite get around as easily as they used to. However, there are some small greenways and parks you can duck into for a moment of solace.

The first of the greenways in this area is the glorious Central Park! If you're in the northern half of the neighborhood, or you're game for a healthy walk to get there, this beautiful 842-acre stretch is equipped with lakes, ponds, and gorgeous landscaping. Note that dogs must always remain on their leash, especially in areas that are unfenced.

If you're looking to stay within the lines of Midtown West, DeWitt Clinton Dog Park is your best and biggest option. This subset of the larger DeWitt Park is an enclosed, concrete dog run where your pal can be off-leash for a while for some play and socialization. Alternatively, you can take a stroll down Pier 84 and see the water or pop by Clinton Community Garden on 48th St. to stop and smell the flowers. No matter where you decide to venture, your pup will be happy to get out of the city for a while.
