Located in the southern section of the Bronx, Soundview is a working class neighborhood. Here are industrial, commercial, and residential areas located in this community. Industrial areas are not pedestrian friendly, and while some commercial activities are located along main roads, and are accessible on foot, the main commercial area is located on the east side of the community. This space may not be accessible on foot for residents on the other side of Soundview.

There are many apartment buildings and housing projects in this neighborhood, which provide shade to streets and sidewalks on hot, humid, New York summer days. Hhowever, if you are walking your dog in this paved urban area, you may want to invest in doggy boots to protect his feet from hot pavement. While summers can be quite hot in the area, winters can be cool and wet, and many winter days will require some outerwear before venturing out with with your pup.

This developed urban area covers 1.3 square miles and is mostly flat and level, consisting of housing complexes and apartment buildings. There is a large commercial area on the east side and large parks to the southwest and northwest. The neighborhood is intersected by major thoroughfares including the Bruckner Expressway and the Bronx River Parkway. If you are traveling on foot with your dog, these freeways need to be crossed at designated over or underpasses with pedestrian crossings. There is also an elevated rail system that provides public transportation to the area. The western edge along the Bronx River is mostly dedicated to industrial usage and not a good place for walking your dog. Residential housing developments have pathways connecting complexes and the area has sidewalks along roadways to keep pedestrians and pets separated from traffic. This is a busy traffic area however, so keep your dog securely leashed for his safety.
