Named after a park in the neighborhood, Sunset Park is in the New York City borough of Brooklyn. The neighborhood is southwest of the borough and lines the Upper Bay on the Hudson River. The area holds many amenities for your little pooch from pet-friendly cafes, such as Absolute Coffee on Atlantic Avenue, to pet care stores like Petland Discounts. Other amenities include an abundance of restaurants, banks, and a great public transport system which can make it much easier to get from point A to point B on busy city days or during rush hour traffic.

During the hottest summer months of July and August, the average temperature is around 90°F. On these days, spending the afternoon at Sunset Park near Fifth Avenue is a great idea. Or, during the winter when temperatures drop to as low as 24 °F, it would be nice to spend the afternoon in a cosy pet-friendly café.

The environment in the area is very built up and so a lot of your dog walking may be on sidewalks. The buildings range from one story to four stories with the classic and characteristic Brooklyn-style architecture. Streets and avenues line the neighborhood with restaurants, cafes, and shops mixed in with residential housing. Sunset Park is the biggest greenway and once you arrive here, you’ll be able to take your little pooch off the leash and let them roam. Just remember to be courteous about other visitors and respect the space of other dogs.

The district of Sunset is pretty hilly, but this is why the area provides such stunning views. The footpaths provide a little bit of ease as they carve out the easiest route to take on the way up. The neighbourhood and park do have an incline but not so steep that it would be hard to handle for you and your pup.

Sunset Park neighborhood is home to a park situated northeast of the district. The park holds a state-of-the-art swimming pool, green fields, and pedestrian walks. From the neighborhood’s highest point of Sunset Park, you can see the Statue of Liberty. Stunning views from the rugged skyline of Manhattan are seen from the pier's edge and there is a reason why it's named after the magnificent sunset. In Autumn, watch the red, yellow, and orange sunset while admiring the similar changing color of leaves. Just be aware that tourists and other visitors may also have similar ideas, so some areas may become crowded.

The neighborhood holds a waterfront which provides another green area called Bushwick Terminal Piers Park. Here, it is reasonably flat and so it is most suitable for dog owners who fancy a smooth stroll to view the harbor. You can also go off-roading for an adventure by walking along the rugged chalk-white stones that wrap the edge of the Hudson River.
