At one point in the time, the word 'Ozone' was used to describe fresh air. It is from the definition that this tiny neighborhood received its name. Situated off Howard Beach, it was billed by its developers as a place to escape the hustle, bustle, and pollution of the city. Today, it is a corner of Queens that has all of the appearance of a small-town village rather than part of one of the busiest cities in the US. It is only the presence of the Aqueduct Racetrack and close proximity to the JFK International Airport that remind you where you really are. There are plenty of amenities to be found for both you and your pup.

Fall and spring walks are especially nice because, with four definable seasons, these months have the mildest temperatures. You can still walk in winter and summer, but there will likely be days you will deem it better to stay indoors.

You will not find any hills in Ozone Park, although there are some hills in the parks north of the neighborhood just on the other side of neighboring Woodhaven. So if you are looking to make a workout out of your walk, you may want to consider making the trip up there a couple of days a week.

If you are not a hardcore exerciser, you might appreciate the level ground of Ozone and if your dog is out of shape, they will appreciate starting out on level ground and at a more leisurely pace. Some of the streets have grass in the shoulders and large shade trees, but overall, you will find that your walks will be concrete all the way. While most dogs will be happy just being out in the fresh air, it's always nice to find a place where they can roll in the grass, explore all the smells, and just be a dog!

Fortunately, although there is little in the way of greenery in Ozone, there are some great parks nearby that will give your dog the chance to immerse themselves in nature. There is one small park in the neighborhood called Tudor Park and this park does have some trees and grass. If you are out taking a quick walk through the neighborhood, it is a great place to stop.

If you really want to give them some green time, head up to Forest Park which is on the other side of Woodhaven. There are 538 acres total with 165 acres of that being under shade. There are miles of trails to walk and the park even has an off-leash area and a dog run! The off-leash area is hours restricted but it allows you to just let your dog off the leash to run, play, and get in some important socializing time.
