Hemmed in by parks, cemeteries, and golf courses to the south and west, Glendale has been a happily forgotten community in a city where real estate is always at a premium. People love the Tudor housing, but most of all, they love the sleepy residential feel of their community. This quiet area has a small town feel that will make walking a pleasure, and with no major through traffic, it is a relatively safe place to walk. Amenities for Fido are all around, both in the neighborhood and just outside of it. Vets, pet stores, and groomers all stand ready to take care of your pampered pup.

Glendale is subject to the New York climate which means cold and possibly snowy periods during the winter and humid summers. Walking is possible most of the year, but you will need to be on the lookout for icy conditions in the winter and hot sidewalks in the summer.

The neighborhood itself is flat, so if you're walking around town, you will find that the walk is easy. Casual walkers will find wide, clean sidewalks and some grass in the residential neighborhoods. There are a few trees but not enough to keep the sidewalks cool in the summer. Overall, the area is very nice to walk through if you are only interested in getting some fresh air.

If you're looking for a more challenging walk or for a bit of nature, it's available just outside of the neighborhood, but you may choose to save this for the summer when the sidewalks are just too hot for your fluffball's tender feet. Keep in mind that if you do choose to walk the neighborhood on hot summer days, you will either need to walk early or provide some sort of protection for your dog’s feet. It can get hot enough here to cause burns to your pup's paws.

Just outside the neighborhood is Forest Park, a large park that is perfect for getting some exercise for both of you! 500 acres of space awaits you and much of it is walkable. A set of hills with trees and trails is a treasure for dog walkers and their charges. There is a lot to see and if you live close enough to the park, you could walk it every day and never get bored! Of course, with a park this large, there are areas set aside for Fido and all their four-legged buddies. There is both an off-leash area open before and after hours and a dog run too.

Highland Park is also available at the south end of the neighborhood and on the other side of some of the cemeteries. It is not nearly as big, but it does have a lot of grass, trees, and places to walk with your pup.
