The Woodside neighborhood of NY is very much a mixed-use neighborhood with everything from quiet residential areas to busy commercial areas. There is a large and broad immigrant population here that started with Irish, German, and Italian, and recently has included Asian and Latino populations as well. This diverse population is reflected in the cuisine available in Woodside, as well as many of the other businesses here. A walk around the neighborhood will net a wide range of restaurants and stores. Pet amenities include a big dog run, lots of places for pet supplies, and a place to get your favorite pup cleaned up.

The weather here consists of four definable seasons with snows and freezing temperatures possible in the winter and hot, humid days in the summer. Many of these days may not be suitable for walking, but you will have the rest of the year with plenty of days suitable for walking.

The terrain throughout Woodside is flat, making walking an easy and pleasurable experience. Most dog walkers do not want to deal with hills and are just fine with a long stroll on level roads. If you are looking for more, then you should consider picking up the pace or covering more ground. A word of caution, however, if you do: If your pup is not quite used to exercise, you will want to give them some time to catch up. Dogs are just as susceptible to being out of shape as humans are and if you see Fido lagging behind or limping, chances are good that you are pushing them too hard.

Walking around Woodside is very urban and there are a lot of busy streets to navigate and not all of them have convenient lights. You will be walking almost exclusively on concrete and the only nature you will encounter outside of the parks is a few trees.

There are not a lot of dog-suitable greenways in Woodside, but there is a dog park in the southern end of the neighborhood. Sherry Dog Run runs along the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway and is paved, rather than grass, but it does give you a place to let your pup off-leash.

On the central west side of the neighborhood is Windmuller Park and Doughboy Plaza where you will find some grass and benches. If you are looking for a longer adventure and have the time, to the south is Highland Park, Forest Park, and to the east is Flushing Meadows Corona Park.

All three parks together take up a considerable amount of acreage and have miles of trails that you and your pup can explore together. These parks are a bit of a drive, but given the lack of natural terrain in Woodside, it's a great way for your best friend to feel a bit of earth beneath their paws!
