Laurelton is an attractive neighborhood in Queens. It is bordered by Cambria Heights and St. Albans and is very near North Woodmere Park. This neighborhood was named for the lovely laurels that grew there at one time. A distinct lack of high-rise buildings gives this neighborhood a small town feel.

If you need some training for Fido, the Cebu Dog Trainer will have your dog trained in no time. A pet supplies store isn't far and the Valley Stream Dog Park is a wonderful place to let your dog play off-leash with their friends. Because it is members only, you can have some security that the dogs your pup plays with will be well behaved. To get your pooch looking good, the Plain & Fancy Dog Salon can take care of the style needs of any dog.

Several nearby parks provide a lot of variety in your experience when walking your dog in this lovely neighborhood.

Laurelton is a lovely neighborhood to walk through with charming historic homes of largely brick construction. Colonial styles, as well as lovely Dutch construction, is common. There are lots of architectural details to enjoy as you stroll along with your dog. There is a good divider between the sidewalk and the road and most homes do not have fenced yards, so this is a very pleasant area to walk with your dog on a loose leash. Many roads even have grassy dividers between lanes, giving a park-like feel to the neighborhood. Huge, mature trees offer shade on hot New York days.

For a change from the charming neighborhood streets, you can simply head east or south. If you go to the east perimeter of Laurelton, on the Belt Parkway, you can find the beautiful Laurelton Parkway. This path is a perfect place to enjoy skateboarding, cycling, or rollerblading with your dog.

South of Laurelton, the Laurelton Parkway leads to Brookville Park. The lovely Brookville Park has charming forested areas to explore as well as grassy fields for a diverse walking experience through this large park. The lovely Conselyeas Pond is fed by a cute little creek that runs through the park. This is a perfect place to expose your dog to water for the first time.

The pond runs out into a marshy area that leads down to Hook Creek Park. This can be a challenging terrain to navigate without the aid of a canoe, kayak, or waders, but if you and your dog are up for an adventure, this might be a great place for you.

You can travel down the river to the expansive marsh and islands of Jamaica Bay if you and your dog really want to escape from the city or you can head to the beach and enjoy a day relaxing in the sand.
