Just outside of New York City, Tottenville is a neighborhood located in Staten Island. It is roughly 22 miles from downtown Manhattan and is the southernmost point in the state of New York. This largely residential neighborhood is composed of standalone, single-family homes. Tottenville is quite recognizable by its Victorian-style architecture. Commercially, Tottenville offers a variety of amenities for residents. There, you will find access to public transportation, local restaurants and bars, a public school, grocery stores, and convenience stores. On the southwest shore, Tottenville also has five historic homes, one of which was the site of failed peace negotiations in the American Revolutionary War.

Tottenville, like the rest of the greater New York City area, distinctly experiences all four seasons: spring, summer, fall, and winter. As a warning, summers can be quite hot and humid. Winters, on the other hand, can bring freezing temperatures, cold winds, and plenty of snow!

Tottenville should be an easily walkable neighborhood! While it is mostly artificial terrain, most of the neighborhoods have well-maintained sidewalks, so you and Fido will be safe from oncoming traffic. Additionally, despite the urban environment, Tottenville has quite a few greenways to explore. The neighborhoods even have beautifully large trees to keep you and your pup cool during hot summer days. Additionally, because it is on the water, Tottenville is a rather flat neighborhood. In fact, you and Fido may experience a slight decline as you walk southwest, closer to Ward's Point.

Tottenville is bordered by the Staten Island Sound to the north, Richard Avenue to the east, Red Bank Reach to the south, and Ward Point Bend to the west. Hylan Boulevard, Amboy Road, Page Avenue, and Arthur Kill Road seem to be the main roadways through Tottenville. Pedestrians may wish to stick to the quieter, residential streets and avoid these major roadways.

For the size of the neighborhood, Tottenville actually has quite a few greenways for you and Fido to explore. Local greenways include Conference House Park, Ward's Point, Lenape Playground, Hybrid Oak Woods Park, Butler Manor Woods, Aesop Park, Long Pond Park, and Tottenville Shore Park. The largest greenway in Tottenville is Long Pond Park which is home to woodlands and wetlands! Only some of these parks are dog-friendly and those that are require dogs to be properly leashed at all times.

Nearby greenways include North Mount Loretto State Park, the Mount Loretto Unique Area, Lemon Creek Park, the Lemon Creek Tidal Wetlands Area, and Fairview Park.

Unfortunately, the nearest dog park seem to be roughly three miles away in Bloomingdale Park. The off-leash area is perfect if Fido needs to burn off some extra energy! Another nearby off-leash area known as Woodbridge Dog Park can be found across the river in New Jersey.
