The topography also changes as well. Within the neighborhoods or city area, it is extremely flat. This is perfect for longer and more relaxing walking days. However, as you head further north of the city, there are some beautiful hilly areas perfect for a more endurance based, intense walking experience. You can also find several medium-intensity walking trails in this area as well. For a small town in New York, this place really does have it all when it comes to dog walking.
Another area rich in history and beautiful natural views is the Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park. This gorgeous area includes the Coe Hall historic house museum, as well as over 400 acres of beautiful state park.
For a more daily walking experience, there are also two beautiful state parks that are primarily made up of trails. Both Trail View State Park and Stillwell Woods Park offer over 700 acres of trails. Finally, for a more family-oriented setting, there is the beautiful Syosset-Woodberry Community Park. This outstanding area features an out door ice skating rink, a swimming pool, and tennis courts.
