Northmoor is a beautiful neighborhood located on the east banks of the Olentangy River on the north side of Columbus, Ohio. The neighbor is highly walkable with many shops, restaurants, and services including banks, coffee shops, and grocery stores which can be found along High Street. There are many options for amenities.

Columbus weather may not always provide walkable conditions. Winters in Columbus can be very cold with sub-freezing temperatures and snow. When wind chill and blizzard conditions are present, you and your furry friend might want to postpone your daily walk. Have a warm coat for yourself and your dog if your pup gets cold easily. Summers are warm but rarely excessively hot and are pleasant for walking. Just be cautious as severe storms occur during these warmer months including lightning storms and tornadoes. Check weather forecasts and seek cover when dangerous weather systems are imminent.

The river is a prominent landscape feature in this neighborhood with natural areas and a trail along it. The Northmoor neighborhood is heavily treed with shade from ornamental trees that provide shelter and make the community cool and beautiful.

Homes in the region are older character homes, neatly appointed and well maintained. Private properties have large, well-landscaped yards. There are no sidewalks in the neighborhood but residents and their pets can walk on grassy berms along many roads.  When you need to share the street with local traffic, be sure to walk facing oncoming traffic.

Roads in this older neighborhood tend to be narrow and have a unique layout. In one area of the Northmoor neighborhood, three roads - Northmoor Place, Milton Avenue, and Montrose Way - intersect to form a unique star-shaped intersection. There are some gentle hills and rises in the neighborhood that pedestrians and pets will have to climb, but they are not steep.

On the west side of the Northmoor neighborhood sits a park of the same name. Northmoor Park is situated in the Olentangy River and provides 9.3 acres of natural area, lots of trees, and natural habitat for local wildlife. The Olentangy Trail runs through this park and extends for 17 miles to the north. In winter, the Olentangy Trail is popular with cross-country skiers who set tracks. Keep your dog off these tracks and clean up after your pet to be respectful to other park and trail users. There are trailheads located in and around Northmoor Park and neighborhood with several trailheads along the hiking path.

A smaller community park, Webster Park, is located in the Northmoor neighborhood. At 1.4 acres, this natural park is home to various birds and local wildlife, so keep your dog leashed in the park so as not to disturb the critters that make this greenway their home.
