Shannon Heights is a neighborhood located in northwest Columbus, Ohio. There is a local shopping center right in the neighborhood that is easily accessible with various shops, eateries, and other services to meet resident needs. A larger shopping center and commercial area are located to the west, however, it is less accessible due to a lack of pedestrian ways in the region.

On foot travel in Columbus can be impeded by inclement weather. Summer thunderstorms and winter blizzards do not create pedestrian-friendly conditions. When storms are imminent, no matter what time of the year, residents should seek shelter and postpone their dog walking until severe weather passes. Winters are cold and require dog walkers to have well insulated coats to stay warm when strolling the cold months with their pooches. Summers are warm and dry, but extreme heat is not common. Simple precautions to avoid overexposure, exertion, and dehydration are usually sufficient to avoid heat-related illnesses.

Shannon Heights is an urban residential and commercial neighborhood. The neighborhood is bordered by Hayden Run Road on the south side, Blazer Parkway on the west side, Tuttle Road on the north, and Dublin Road on the east.

There are several multi-family housing complexes located in the area and lots of single-family dwellings as well. Single-family homes are set on well-landscaped properties with large yards and residential streets have sidewalks and grassy berms, providing a safe walking space for pedestrians and pups.

Shannon Heights is situated on relatively flat ground and, when traveling the district on foot, people and pets of all mobility and ability levels should be able to easily navigate the area without having to contend with steep hills or long inclines. There are some busy thoroughfares on the borders and commercial areas with traffic accessing parking lots and businesses. When walking with your dog in these areas, be vigilant and exercise caution.

Shannon Heights is located kitty-corner to Hayden Falls Park which is situated on the southeast corner. This 2-acre natural space is on the west bank of the Scioto River and has a creek running through it that has formed a deep gorge, boasting a 35-foot waterfall. A walking trail with a boardwalk and lookout provides great views of the water features.

Shannon Heights can also access the Llewellyn Farms Park just a few blocks to the north. This park has basketball and tennis courts, sports fields, a playground, and a paved path which extends into the adjacent neighborhood areas. The path makes a great dog walking trail nearby.

A short drive to the west will take Shannon Heights residents to the Heritage Trail. This 7-mile trail is another great dog walking path and there is a 4-acre off-leash area located here for your pup to enjoy some free play.
