Dog Walking in Lostine

Lostine is a small farm town in the Wallowa Valley of Oregon. The Lostine River sits inside of Lostine, perfect if your pup loves the water. There are no veterinarians in Lostine, but there are three that your pup can visit innearby Enterprise.

Take a hike through the Eagle Cap Wilderness with your furry pal. This park offers a ton of trails that take you by several creeks and small lakes that your pup can stop to cool down. While hiking the trails, you will be taken through the heart of the Wallowa Mountains and the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. The hikes can be steep, so make sure you and Fido are up for it. Once you reach the summit, the views will be breathtaking and worth the hike.

Enjoy another hike along the Maxwell Lake Trail. This trail is 7.4-miles long with a 2,516-foot elevation gain, on an out and back route. The trail takes you through the Eagle Cap Wilderness where you will pass a lake, perfect to splash around in and cool off. The hike is steep with some loose gravel, so take the hike slowly.

Grab Fido and get a good hike in along the Lodgepole Trail. The trail takes you through the southwestern part of the Eagle Cap Wilderness, and eventually will connect to the Moss Springs Trailhead if you want to continue. While hiking, you will be covered by trees to keep you shaded and will even pass some meadows. Encounter small creeks and lakes while hiking where you and your pup can stop to cool down. Your dog isn't required to stay on a leash on this trail, but make sure to keep an eye on them since wild animals are often seen.

The Two Pan Trailhead is a great hike to go one with your furry pal. The trail has a 5,600-foot elevation and will take you through the Eagle Cap Wilderness. The trailhead offers camping if you and Fido want to spend a few nights exploring. The trail will take you between Mirror and Minam Lakes before opening into a valley.  The trail can get steep, so make sure to keep an eye on your pup while you hike. Located in Enterprise and only eight miles out of Lostine, your dog will love exploring this trail with you.

The Nez Perce National Historic Park is a great place to spend the day with Fido. The park offers trails that you and Fido can use for a nice walk together. There are also restrooms and picnic tables available if you would rather relax in the park. The Iwetemlaykin State Heritage Site gives you a stunning view of the Wallowa Mountains with trails that will take you through the area. While hiking, you will come across a small pond. The McCully Trailhead is another great area to take a hike with your dog. There are restrooms and picnic tables at the trailhead. These pawtastic adventures are located in Joseph, eleven miles out of Lostine.

The Minam State Recreational Area offers some great activities for you and your pup. While you're out at the park you can camp, fish, or enjoy the picnic area. There are hiking trails you and Fido can use for a nice walk and a river where you can cool down. The Cougar Ridge Trailhead is on the outskirts of Wallowa and offers a great hike through the Eagle Cap Wilderness. You will mainly hike along a ridgetop, but also be able to explore a forested area. Make sure your pup stays on a leash while hiking through the area. Located in Wallowa and nine miles out of Lostine, your dog will love these hikes.

Spend a day out at the Minam State Park. This lovely park sits along the Wallowa River and offers restrooms, campsites, and water fountains. There is a picnic area where you and Fido can relax and enjoy a meal together, plus a great hiking area to walk through and explore. Make sure to walk along the river so you and Fido can cool off before you head home for the day. While visiting the park, your dog does not need to be on a leash, but keep an eye out since there is a lot of wildlife here. This pawesome park is located in Elgin, and only thirty miles out from Lostine.
