Sabin is a residential neighborhood located in northeast Portland, Oregon. Alberta Street is home to the Alberta Arts District and many unique shops, restaurants, and cafes. On the south border, Fremont Street has local eateries and pubs and is a popular walking destination with amenities for Sabin residents. A park and community garden, as well as a local school, provide additional walking destinations and make the community highly walkable.

When walking your dog in the Sabin neighborhood, you will experience cool, wet winters, requiring a warm raincoat and good footwear when the temperatures get colder and wet surface freeze or precipitation turns to snow. Although these conditions are infrequent, they can be treacherous. If your dog doesn't like to get wet, you can purchase a doggie raincoat and boots for your pup too! Summers are, luckily, warm and dry and temperatures rarely get uncomfortably hot or see severe storms.

The Sabin neighborhood is bordered by Wygant Street on the north, Freemont Street on the south side, 10th Avenue on the west, and 23rd Avenue on the east. Streets in the neighborhood are laid out in a typical grid pattern with commercial thoroughfares on the north and south borders of the region.

The bulk of the neighborhood is made up of residential homes. Dwellings are often turn-of-the-century structures and feature vintage architecture that adds charm and character to the area. Homes have unique historic features, gardens, and landscaping with amazing large trees. The area is well landscaped, beautiful, and green.

Residential roads have separate sidewalks for you and your dog to stroll on and are peaceful and safe. There are some hills in the neighborhood, but elevation changes are not abrupt or strenuous for walking, so pets and people of all ability levels can get around without too much trouble.

Irvine Park is located to the south of Sabin and within easy walking distance. This park features 16 acres of recreation and natural space. There are shady wooded areas and open lawns near  fields. The park has a designated off-leash area where your pup can play and sports fields and facilities. Paved trails throughout the park make walking trails to peruse this lovely space.

Sabin has a community garden to visit and resources online guide locals and visitors to the notable trees in the area, allowing residents to go on a “Sabin Tree Walk,” a sort of unique well-distributed arboretum in the neighborhood!

The Sabin Hydropark is located in the community and is a water bureau property that also provides a children's park and is the location of the community garden. This interesting park has lots of shade trees and is well worth a visit when exploring the Sabin neighborhood with your pup.
