Abbotsford is a small community of row houses and apartments located right next to the Queen Lake Reservoir. There are multiple restaurants in the area serving up a variety of tasty foods. Although the nearest parks are a bit of drive, with a choice between Fairmount Park and Wissahickon Valley Park, you have plenty of places to go walking with Fido. Pet supply stores are within driving distance as the area sits next to several large retail and commercial business complexes.

The weather in Philly offers four complete seasons to enjoy. Spring and fall are the perfect time of year to go walking with Fido as the temperature are quite mild. Winters can be pretty rough with temperatures well below freezing for weeks at a time and plenty of snow to traipse through. Summers offer the other end of the spectrum with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s and long days of seemingly endless sunshine.

The terrain in the Abbotsford area is mostly flat and unexciting. But you can make the most out of the ground you have to work with. If you want to get in plenty of exercise with Fido, you just have to be creative. Instead of walking around the same block every time the two of you go out for your daily walks, choose different blocks to go around. Take Fido for a walk around the reservoir as there is a path running around it for you to make use of.

One thing to keep in mind is that, during the summer months, paved surfaces tend to heat up. In the middle of the afternoon during July and August, these surfaces can quickly become hot enough to cause discomfort to sensitive puppy paws. Plan your walks for the early mornings to avoid any burns or injury or consider purchasing doggy boots or shoes for protection.

Beyond the grass around the reservoir and Abbotsford homes, there isn't much in the way of green in the area. Well, unless you don't mind the short drive to either Wissahickon Valley Park or Fairmount Park. Wissahickon Valley Park covers 1,800 acres running along the Wissahickon Creek and through the Wissahickon Gorge. The creek drops over 100 feet of elevation on its way to merging with the Schuylkill River. There are miles of trails running through the park and along the creek for you to explore.

Fairmount Park is the former home of the 1876 Centennial Exposition celebrating our Nation's 100th birthday. The park sits on over 340 acres and includes a 146-acre golf course, three fishing ponds, and plenty grass and trails to enjoy. Don't forget to pack a picnic for the family and bring your fishing gear. You never know what you might catch in the water!
