In the early days, Bustleton was a thriving farming community centered around the Bustleton Tavern. Today, the area is a residential neighborhood with several commercial zones mainly scattered along the main roads. This is a quiet middle-class family neighborhood within commuting distance of Center City. There are a number of tasty restaurants along Roosevelt Blvd. and several pet supply stores and groomers within driving distance. For those of you who have kids, there are four public schools in the community that are part of the School District of Pennsylvania. The area is lacking, however, in things to do after dark such as pubs, bars, and nightclubs.

The weather here is variable from frigid and snowy in the winter to hot and humid in the summer. While you and your pup can go for walks most days of the year, you will have to be very careful in the winter months when the sidewalks and streets are icy.

The terrain here is typical of any suburban area of northeast Philly in that within the community, the ground is quite level. The big thing to remember when you encounter terrain such as this and need to make sure your pup is getting plenty of exercise is that sometimes you have to substitute distance for lack of challenging terrain. There are plenty of blocks to choose from, no matter where you live in the community. In fact, one of the best ways to get your exercise is to choose several different blocks each day to walk around. Not only will this make for more interesting walks, but it will also give you a chance to get to know more of your neighbors.

Dogs were never meant to walk on pavement, but if you take your time and give them time to build up their resistance slowly, your pup will be cruising around town in no time.

If you are looking for greenways in the Bustleton area, you are in luck. There are several parks and wooded areas in the community that are perfect for you and your pup to get in a little exercise. Most are dog-friendly as long as you remember to pick up any mess.

By far, the best part of living in Bustleton is direct access to the Pennypack Creek Park. The park is nine miles long and spans the Pennypack Creek. There are numerous trails for you to follow, trees to get out of the sun under, and miles of grass for the two of you to enjoy. This park is so vast, you could spend all year walking around trying to take it all in, but chances are good it will take far longer than this to see it all. The park looks different in every season, so be sure you enjoy hiking them all.
