Frankford is a residential and commercial neighborhood located in the northeast area of Philadelphia. The historic neighborhood is dotted with museums, churches, schools, a hospital, and medical clinic that residents can reach on foot. The area is highly walkable with many services available within easy walking distance to locals.

Frankford residents need to be prepared for various weather conditions throughout the year. Summer weather is hot and also humid and avoiding walking during the height of the day with your pup is advised. Winter is much colder with temperatures around the freezing mark, requiring a warm coat and footwear. It can snow in Philadelphia, although snow rarely sticks during the daytime when temperatures warm up to above freezing on most days.

Still, waterproof footwear for snowy evenings and mornings may be a good investment! Rain can occur throughout the year in this coastal location so a waterproof jacket will keep walks with your pooch much drier.

This area has a population of over 25,000 and several sub-neighborhoods including Northwood where pre-war duplexes and single-family homes dominate the landscape. Brick construction is common to the area and townhouses, low rise apartments, and single-family homes, often with historic features and architecture, can be found throughout the neighborhood. There are large cemeteries in the community and along the border that bring manicured green spaces to the district.

The Delaware River is a short distance to the south and the community is bordered by the Delaware Expressway on its southern edge and Roosevelt Boulevard on the north. These busy thoroughfares have lots of traffic and noise and are not pedestrian-friendly areas. An elevated train track runs through the community and busy commercial thoroughfares sit underneath the tracks. There are some inclines in the area, although no steep sections that present problems for pedestrians and their pets traveling about.
