Germantown was first established in the late 17th century and today is a blend of single and multi-family homes, small businesses, historic homes, museums, and several parks, most of which are dog-friendly. There are numerous excellent restaurants to try out, pet stores and parks in driving distance, and you are close enough to the center of the city to work there and commute home at night. The community is quite dog-friendly with plenty of sidewalks to stroll along and lots of shade trees to keep the two of you cooler in the summer heat.

Speaking of weather, summers bring temperatures in the 80s to 90s and moderate humidity levels. Winters, however, tend to be at the opposite end of the scale with temperatures frequently going well below freezing along with plenty of snow, rain, hail, sleet, and ice to cope with. In recent years, the number of 'Nor-Easters' has been on the increase, bringing colder temperatures and more snow.

The terrain here tends to be like much of Philly in that there are plenty of rolling hills to help add a little extra oomph to your daily walks. Most of the streets have sidewalks with grass berms for your pup to walk on and keep their pads cooled off during the summer months.

Should you choose to stick to the sidewalks, you can always vary up your walks by hiking to different parts of the community or heading to one of the nearby parks. There are several of them located all over the West Germantown part of the city for you to check out. Even if you have one park nearby, why not take a drive over to the others and check them out with your pup? Keep in mind that most of them might be dog-friendly, but you must always keep your dog on a leash unless there is a designated off-leash area.

Westside Germantown sports a wide selection of great parks for you and your dog to check out. Some like Blue Bell and Clifford Park have their own dog parks while others just have vast areas of grass and trails to walk along. Be sure you check the park rules before you take your pup out!

At Blue Bell Park, the dog park offers plenty of room for your pooch to run around in with their friends both old and new. The park also provides direct access to hiking and biking trails and offers what may be the cleanest outdoor restrooms in the city. This is a fantastic park for you and your family, including the four-footed member, to spend some quality time together.

In the southeast corner of the town sits Fernhill Park which offers a vast grassy playing field and multiple trails for you and your dog to enjoy.
