McGuire is home to the Temple University Hospital-Episcopal Campus and a small residential community of single-family homes, row houses, and apartments. The area itself is older but well-kept and considered safe for walking with your dog at any time of day. Most of the streets here have tree-lined streets with sidewalks. There are a few restaurants nearby, but if you want a dog park or pet supply store, it's going to be a bit of a drive.

If you like cold weather and plenty of snow, then Philly is the place for you! The mercury spends long weeks far below the freezing point with plenty of snow and ice to deal with as well. Summers are the payback for suffering through a Philly winter. Long sunny days in the 80s, evenings in the 60s, and the occasional rain shower make every day a good day to go for a walk.

The terrain in McGuire is typical of most areas of Philly: flat and lined with houses in a grid that makes going for walks a little on the dull side. But going for walks when this is all you have to work with is only boring if you let it be! Living in this area, you have an almost unlimited supply of blocks to walk around. Mix them up and choose different routes each day as this will help make your daily strolls a little more interesting.

Living here also means your pup has to learn how to deal with walking on pavement when it's too hot to touch and when it is cold enough to freeze their paws. One way to deal with the cold, snow, and ice, is to teach your dog how to walk in puppy booties. This can help protect your dog's paws in both winter and summer when the pavement starts to heat up.

McGuire is a little short on green spaces. Beyond a few empty lots and small neighborhood parks, there isn't much here. But you are only a short drive from Fairmont Park, home of the Nation's Centennial Exposition in 1876 when over 10 million visitors descended on the area. The park covers over 2,000 acres and includes trails, rolling hills, shaded woods, and a fantastic view of the river. There are miles of trails for you to go off-road cycling, hiking, horseback riding, and go for long hikes with your pooch.

This park is home to several historic homes that are open to visitors, outdoor concerts, and Japanese tea ceremonies. The park spans both sides of the Schuylkill River and is wonderful place for you to bring the whole family for picnics and fun times in the sun. On the other side of the river is the Philadelphia Zoo, which is another great place to take the whole family.
