Newbold is a small neighborhood in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, located roughly two miles southwest of downtown Philly. This is a large residential area that is, in true Philadelphia fashion, made of plenty of row houses. Commercially, you will find plenty of restaurants, coffee shops, a brewery, access to public transportation, an elementary school, a middle school, and a bowling alley. Additionally, only a few blocks to the east of Newbold, you will find two pet retailers! First, Doggie Style Pets Passyunk is a pet supply store for you to pick up all of Fido's essentials. Second, Amelie's Bark Shop is a pet-friendly bakery where you can get biscuits, treats, and even custom cakes for your furry friends!

Philadelphia, Newbold included, experiences all four seasons throughout the year. Summer months will bring plenty of sun, heat, and tons of humidity. Winter months, on the other hand, will bring snow, cold temperatures, wind, and some icy conditions.

Like most of Philadelphia, Newbold is a fairly walkable neighborhood. As an urban community, the terrain is all artificial, but there are plenty of sidewalks to keep you and Fido safe! Unfortunately, those sidewalks won't have a ton of shade during the sunny, summer months as there are very few large trees in the Newbold community. Additionally, Newbold is a relatively flat neighborhood, so you shouldn't encounter significant changes in elevation as you and Fido explore during your daily walks. However, if you and Fido need a break while out walking around, a few restaurants and coffee shops welcome furry friends on their outdoor patios.

The boundaries of Newbold include Washington Avenue to the north, South Broad Street to the east, Passyunk Avenue to the south, and South 18th Street to the west. South 16th Street and South 15th Street are also major roadways, so pedestrians may want to avoid those areas due to the potential for speeding traffic.

Unfortunately, there are only two greenways located in Newbold and they are both quite small. First, Bouvier Garden is a small community garden located on the western side of the neighborhood. Unfortunately, pups are not welcomed in this green space. The second greenway is Disilvestro Playground which is home to basketball courts, a playground, and some small areas for general recreation. While it's not much, Disilvestro Playground is still a great option to explore with your pup!

Pedestrians can also walk to Columbus Square, Ralph Brooks Park, Chew Playground, Guerin Recreation Center, Capitolo Playground, Bardascino Park, and Marian Anderson Park which are all located outside of the Newbold neighborhood. The nearest off-leash area is the Columbus Square Dog Park which is less than half a mile to the east. This fenced-in area even has some stumps for dogs to jump around on. Always make sure you keep an eye on your pup while they are playing and to clean-up after them before you leave!
